Each to their own, ogi.

I have to admit that as much as I loved black music up to about 1995, after that not much at all.

Mind you, that also applies to most post 1995 "white music" as well, other than a few indie and other exceptions such as "The National".

I wouldn't cross the street to see Taylor Swift...
Re. Taylor Swift. NOR I.

these days some Blues stuff is being recorded by Black artists...but that,s about it....the genre of music that i most loved has disappeared, in fact by that late 70,s it was gone...never to return......just had a thought...what if a hip hop artist decided to cover "I Found A Love" by Wilson Pickett or a mainstream white guy like Wikennd..did i spell it right ?..covered Sam & Dave,s When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.....would be interesting
The Weeknd is how I think its spelled. But ya I agree with you even from when I grew up in the 80's and 90's, today's music is trash compared to it.

As sophisticated and amazing Stevie Wonder's later albums were, her are my two favourite Steve Wonder songs:

Uptight is right up there for me as well. Exquisite. Obviously the Stevie Wonder fanbase will point to 'Songs in the Key of Life' and 'Innervisions' as being his best work but my favorite song of his isn't from one of them.

"That Girl"

Wow mind blown a bit here. I of course am familiar with the De La tune but never for a minute thought it was a Stevie Wonder sample.

New Edition "Can You Stand the Rain" live on Arsenio Hall show. Probably sometime in 1989.

Co leads on this were Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant and a little help from Ricky Bell. It should be noted that Bobby Brown was not in the group at this time.

Seen these cats in concert at Casino Rama a few years ago. Wil be seeing them again next year along with Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton in Motown. Can't wait!

Stephanie Mills was a seriously talented singer. Sounded great live as well. Here's a couple of my favorites from her

"Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin"

"You're Puttin' a Rush on Me"

The Queen of Hip Hop Soul live on Conan.

"You Bring Me Joy"

In case you're wondering what the underlying sample is, it is of course The Walrus aka Barry White.

"It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me"

My favorite Joe track. At that time Papoose was just coming up in the hip hop game but unfortunately never realized his potential beyond mixtape culture.

"Where You At?" produced by Warren "Oak" Felder & Sean Garrett

I'm just working on refining my disco playlist. The only limitations I have are maximum 5 songs per artist. The ones at 5 are Donna Summer, The Bee-Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band and Chic.

A couple newly added ones besides "Welcome to the Club"

"Ten Percent" by Double Exposure

"Get Off" by Foxy

This is Kid 'n Play Live at the Apollo Theatre in 1989. The year before they released their best album called 2Hype. This is a medley of 3 cuts from the album. The 2nd is "Do This My Way" which is my favorite. Rappers who can dance up a storm is sadly a lost art form in 2025.
The late 80's/early 90's was such a great time for hip hop because so many artists were putting out feel good party jams. Besides Kid 'n Play you had Heavy D & the Boyz, Salt 'n Pepa, Special Ed, Kwame, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Chubb Rock, Tone Loc, Young MC, Rodney O and Joe Cooley etc..
Kid 'n Play went on to do the House Party films 1 through 3 from 1990-1993. These cats were talented.
