I've found IKEA to be a good place to get good, cheap occasional furniture like coffee tables, dining room tables, maybe even a computer desk. For heavily abused furniture like beds, sofas, office chairs, etc., I would recommend a real furniture store.

The one IKEA purchase I regretted was this floppy sofa bed thing. It was basically a big foldable pillow with no support at all (no wood or metal). Too often, you would fall out of it. I ended up giving it to charity.

At Ikea you get what you pay for. That Sofa bed probably costed you $199.99, If you had purchased a Sofa bed for $1599.99 you would still be sitting on it.

You know what I wish Ikea sold? Rubs and Tugs, that's what I wish IKEA sold.

You know what amazes me? That there are so many IKEA experts on this chat site. What a wonderful place this is!

If you have to buy crappy furniture buy IKEA. At least they are trying to put some modern style into it, unlike those dreadful 'The Brick' and Leon's. At the Brick they are telling you that particle board is quality because it is better than MDF.

I love assembling their furnitures. Lifesize 3D puzzles. But if you make a mistake for some desk or drawers, it can be costly.

I don't even think anyone buys at Ikea in my hood...they just wait until moving day when half the dumpsters have Ikea stuff left beside them by departing tenants. So maybe it's the same 50 bookshelves, crappy desks, and pine coffee tables that ten people bought five years ago...and it's recirculating throughout the West End biosphere not unlike the condensation, precipitation, infiltration, runoff, and evapotranspiration of the endless cycle of the world's water supply.
