A question about STD Testing.

I've never had unprotected intercourse but I think it doesn't justify NOT going to get tested... never done it before however I understand that it can be quite an 'intrusive' procedure for a male. Can anybody aleviate my fears? (Aside from the fear of my dick falling off) What is the procedure exactly?

It depends on what STD you are testing for. The worst I had was the clap (chlamydia) and a little yellow pill took care of that pretty quick. The only STD that you should get tested for is HIV and that is a simple blood test (pinprick). Most of the other STD's are futile to test for because you would KNOW if you had it.

I really hope that this is an attempt at sarcasm because it is utter nonsense.

Well let's see:

Herpes you would know.
Gonorrhea you would know.
Chlamydia you would know if you are male (females sometimes asymptomatic).
Warts you would know.
Crabs you would know.

Did I leave anything out???

I disagree with the johnnyhandsomes first statements. I knew a friend..(yes it really was a friend) that had chlymidia and didnt know it. His GF got tested and she told him so he went just in case....and yes he had it. Antibiotics clear it right up...but he had no obvious symptoms and i totally disagree in your comment that HIV is the only STD you should get tested for. If you think you may have it...GET TESTED! I went in to get tested a while back and i had no idea what STD it might of been but i had some minor symptoms and wanted to be sure. I got what was called a swab done. TIny little qtip type thingy poked and swooshed around inside your pecker head....pretty uncomfortable for sure but its quick...had to get two done. The results took about a week...Mine came back clean.....but the piece of mind is invaluable....glad i did it. So do it if you even marginally think you may have one

Well... you may be right, I'm not a doctor. But I've never heard of symptom free Herpes and Gonorrhea.

Corena is right, I'm not a doctor so I should stop playing one. If you're worried about STD's then go see a physician. Better yet go see a female doctor and ask her to do a full pecker examination. From top to toe :)

if it was up yer arse, you'd know.
just check out the Hassle Free Clinic website, I think it's usually pretty helpful with the Q&A on STD/STI facts, symptoms, tests, etc. Really, it can't hurt to just run a bunch of tests now and again , just to be safe. Apparently one of the tests that used to be kinda intrusive for guys can now be done with a urine sample.

Both herpes and HPV (the virus that causes warts and also cervical cancer) can be carried in your system for months or years without you ever knowing it until it suddenly breaks out.

There's a blood test for herpes that they never tell you about because it's expensive, I suppose it's not even covered by OHIP, but without an outbreak present it's the only accurate way of finding out if you have it and which strain you have. Even then I'm not sure if the blood test catches it every time.....

Well.....well. I never knew that.
Learn something new everyday, eh. That would explain those red, purple and pink spots that keep showing up on my genitals.

*Fay slaps jh's hand* now stop picking at it, you're making it worse!

Now look what you did. When you slapped my hand the pus went all over the place. Now who's gonna clean all that up??

Wouldn't you agree "The Shake", that if you are paranoid about STDs, it is best to stay away from this hobby?
Sure Donald. Thats why he's on this board. This is a hobby-free zone.

I think I'll re-hijack my thread... I was just concerned about the intrusivness of an STD test for guys... from the sounds of it.. it's a pretty quick and pretty much painless swap of the knob.
