If the US applied to Canada for permission to become the 11th Province, we should at least consider it.

Cons for Canda:

- no lapdances at strip bars
- no full nudity at strip bars
- huge crackdown on MP's essentially running them all out of town
- SP's now start charging double

That alone would have me say NO!

Also, I don't like the false/one-side statements in the Pros/Cons (The whole thing reeks as if this is just an argument for the US to take us over):

Pros for Canada:
- reduced debt burden. We're running the budget surplus and the US is running the huge deficit. We'd be worse off. I can't remember where I heard it but isn't Canada running the lowest debt burden per capita of all the Industrialized countries.
- increase national security to focus more on ....... and "The Mexican Border". Not much of a concern for us as I see it (I can read a map). That, let alone the fact we don't piss off other countries around the world like the US does keeps us safer (not entirely safe but safer).
- ability to choose a "President". Why not a "Prime Minister" as the new leader.
- gain a seat in the most powerful nation on the planet. What, only 1 seat!
- Attain a stronger economy and nation. Our economy is doing better then theirs. With our natural resources, particularly the Athabaskan Oil sands (2nd larget reserve on the planet) and the price of oil going up (making our oil more cost competitive), we're sitting in a good position.

You Are Really Different from Us

As someone who loves his country, it is not surprising to hear other nation's peoples say they wouldn't want to be citizens of another country. What strikes me is the vitriol of so many on this board when talking about the United States. One never, and I mean never, hears any American express such comments about Canadians, Brits, Irish or hardly any other country's citizens or their country.

Yes, we are critical of Mexico - the most corrupt nation on either American continent but we like Mexicans. Same with the Chinese, less with the Russians who are an unfriendly, loutish gaggle of males; the females of the specie are most attractive.

It's suprising considering what our citizens - forget the government - have given to the world in terms of lives, resources and various technologies. You would think some gratitude would be expressed, just a little.

It's truly suprising, especially from self-styled sophisticated, mannered citizens of the North.

And disappointing. I would urge you to be thankful ours is not a country like, say, China. You would have been speaking mandarin for decades.

The website maximizes your "pros" and grossly minimizes your "cons"

Probably hosted by some of our right wingers - who would annex the rest of the world in succession as well, given their way. Kind of like the Borg, I think...

MasterMuse, we don't hate Americans. Quite the opposite. We love you and are glad to have you as our friendly, civilized, normal neighbours. You are welcome at my house any day of the week.

Well, let me qualify that. We love 90% of you. The other 10% are the ones who give freedom a bad name, and they're the ones you hear Canadians ranting about.

And by the way, I'm not talking about Bush; I'm not republican bashing. The 10% of idiot Americans straddle all political stripes, economic classes, and races. Sadly, that 10% get a lot of press, and they're the cause of the America-bashing you're hearing, here and elsewhere.

I suppose then that those Canadians I hear mostly are your 10%. It's a case of squeaky wheels getting the media grease I surmise. They certainly muck up facts though.

I think the freedom of movement without being hassled by both American and Canadian customs and immigration morons are pros for hobbyists and SPs alike. Every terbite should vote for it. Lol!
