That's because you erroneously applied a non-integer factorial derivation theorem to two mutually exclusive events by not considering LaGrange multipliers.

He works at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York ,
where he for several time periods have been the director of the institute.
He followed as director Peter Lax, who received the Abel Price in 2005.
