I downloaded AdAware Personal a few days ago. I ran it and quarantined the items it found. Then, when I went on IE I discovered that a folder in my Favourites was missing. I checked the quarantine list and, sure enough, it was there and had been quarantined. I removed it from the quarantine list and it reappeared in my Favourites when I went back on IE. I had no further problems. Until today...

I restarted my computer last night for the first time since running AdAware. This morning, to my chagrin, the folder in Favourites is once again missing. Making matters even worse, the folder is no longer on the quarantine list (b/c I removed it the last time this happened).

So now the folder is gone and I have no idea how/if I can get it back. I don't even know why it disappeared since I had removed it from the quarantine list after it disappeared the first time. I tried doing a system restore (I'm using Win XP) but that doesn't work for Favourites.

I'm extremely ticked off right now b/c I appear to have lost a year's worth of links. I never had problems with AdAware in the past but this experience makes me want to remove AdAware and never come back.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

2 weeks. That's what I've been doing, but there were a lot of old links that I haven't been to in a while.

you did not put the folder into the ignore list.

did you select delete archives ?

adware keeps all the archives unless you ask to delete them.

your only option is to unerase the archive files using nortin unerase or something like that.

I don't use IE unless I really have to for a few sites.

Guys, better start backing up your bookmarks/links like any other data you treasure. I had similar bookmark folder disappeared on me a few years ago and it was farking painful.

Now I back up bookmarks about 2 times a month minimum.

I removed the folder from the quarantine list so it didn't even show up there anymore. When I rebooted, AdAware must have kept track of it somehow and then deleted it anyways. I didn't delete the archives until after the folder went missing the second time. The first place I looked was the quarantine list but, as I stated earlier, I had already removed it from the list so it wasn't there to be ignored or removed or anything else. It was just gone.

if you know the folders name
you can try to do a recover from the c prompt. recover c:*/ [filemane] might still work with XP. Although I am not positive

If you're running XP go back to a previous restore point.
