Really? Why not? Would you like to see a third of your friends and family die? If you are serious then you a cold hearted sociopath
Your post suggested that there was some bigger, planetary reason aside from 'boo hoo, my friend died'.

There are - the impact on the economy, the impact on hospitals, burying or burning over 2 billion corpses would have a huge environmental impact and for everyone but you the loss of that many people would have a tremendous psychological impact- survivor guilt would be a large factor in people's lives

It has happened before in the history of mankind, and it will happen again at some point. Get over yourself and your "you are a sociopath if you understand reality" mentality and just accept it. It might not be in our lifetime, but something drastic will happen (plague, natural disaster, etc...).

Has anyone considered, that human kind IS the earth's current virus?

Think about our destructive nature? We burn, pollute, waste and kill off much of the planet's resources for our own use/ amusement.

As the dominant species (at present...), who's to say we will eventually get naturally "selected" just like the previous dominant species. (It may not be so "natural" in fact, as we may end up doing it to ourselves...)

Its one thing to say it might happen, its another to say it would be a good thing

Yeah, well, despite the problems of body disposal, disease spreading, and the psychological impact of having so many love ones die, I still think it would be a good thing... but not 1/3... more like 2/3...

Read "The Postman" by David Brin.

We have spoiled and polluted the earth to the point that it will never recover at present population growth.

We don't deserve to survive as a race.

Or, as an alternative to a plague, how about several dirty nuclear devices, set off somewhere in the middle east, combined with a good strong long lasting west wind...a wind that will carry the fallout right out to the Pacific ocean.

We are so lucky to be living in Canada, which is clean and free.

I realize these are unpopular and extreme solutions, but do you really think mankind is gonna change its behaviour?

I doubt it.
