Air Miles vs. Aeroplan

I prefer airmiles hands down. There are so many more airmiles sponsors than there are aeroplan ones. I've also had an aeroplan card for 2 years and have accumulated a total whopping 20points. They seem to be adding more partners now, maybe it will improve.

If you travel enough and/or stay in hotels frequently, aeroplan can be great!

I get more cash back on my optima card at shoppers drug mart.

The problem with that you're forcing yourself to buy personal products and whatever at Shoppers at a premium price just to get the points. I would rather save a $1 on a bottle of shampoo if I buy at another store than buy it at Shoppers at a premium. The savings are worth more in my pocket than a few points. This is one example but it quickly adds up when you buy several products. Shoppers is an expensive place, although it is quite convenient, I guess that's what you pay for.

Personally, I think SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest, Sheraton, Westin, W, St. Regis, Four Points) is the best, I have used up tons of free hotel rooms already! And I still have another 25 freebies (or less, 12-15 at the W or St. Regis) to use up! You get the points from hotel stays and especialy from using the MBNA SPG credit card. (Then when you get gold ot platinum, they throw even more points at you)

Aeroplan and Airmiles are crap... but I still have to use up all that too...

aeroplan is great for flying business class. saves me a ton!!!

tip: when booking with aeroplan, book a multi-city trip for the same points as a round trip. (ie. you can fly toronto-las vegas-edmonton-toronto for the same points as flying toronto-edmonton-toronto).

I collect miles from all airlines - When I started to collect, I didn't know one can consolidate the miles from different airlines. If I have Aeroplan, Dividend miles from US Airway, Preferred miles from United already how can I go about merging these miles into one? Same goes for the One World Alliance group.

One option is www.points.com to swap points between programs or top-up.
