AJ to join BJ's

Word has AJ Burnett possibly signing by tomorrow. Look like JP stepped up to the plate after St.Louis offered a 4 year deal at the same rate $10 mil/year and upped his offer to from 10 mil/year over 5 to 11mil/year over 5. So hopefully AJ isn't leaning towards the Cards anymore

AJ WILL NOT BE HERE!!!

As we all know the wife has the final say and she ain't coming here...period! She's afrais of Canada like lots of people down there that just don't get it. Anywaz, if it were up to him mI think he'd already be here.

Plus who would you rather play for...Cards or Jays??? Cards are always in the running and Jays have no pull. 1 mil per year ain't gonna do it.

No... that's just a fact. A good salesperson will always sell to the women. Why? Cause when the couple is alone, she will one way or another get her way. A smart women will even let her man think it was his idea. Come on man psychology 101!!! Not in a bad way, just the way the world turns.

Just to make the woman happy, small petty things maybe. However, when it comes to a career where millions are involved, only a REALLY weak man would allow his wife to get the final say.

Psychology 101 you say? Well it works both ways. If you say that "they are not stupid", I'll answer "well we are not dumb either".

great so even if it comes that means we would have an unproven closer (only one full season as such with Baltimore), an injury prone starter for 11 million a year....

Am I the only one who thinks fucking JP better be looking for a power hitter to insert in the middle of the lineup????

to make matters worse i read that he may be getting a 3 year extension on his contract.......WTF is up with that????

A.j. & B.j.

If the Burnett signing goes through, it can only strengthen the Jays. It's unfortunate that Rogers is opening up the coffers in an unspectacular free agent year but that's not something J.P. can control.

I like the young group of guys on the current Jays team. The infield is solid throughout (with the exception of Hinske at first) and you've got Wells in CF. With Doc and A.J. as your top two starters followed by Chacin, Towers, Bush or Batista, I think the Jays will be very competitive next year. Yes, another big bat would be nice. Perhaps, that can now be acquired by way of trade. Whether or not all these moves is enough to overtake one of Yankees or Red Sox remains to be seen. But you gotta give J.P. props for trying.

Now lets just go after Zito and a Power Hitter!

I don't understand how fans can be so uninformed about certain players......... there is no way we're getting Zito. I say this for 3 reasons:

1. Oakland wants a power hitter for the middle of their lineup and two pitching prospects in return. Last time I checked the Jays didn't have a power bat..... Hence their need to trade for one. And the Jays aren't giving away any of thier young pitchers. In other words they have nothing that Oakland wants;

2. If J.P. thought he could get Zito he wouldn't have gone after A.J.;

3. Zito is a free agent after this year and will definately test the free agency waters. Why wouldn't he with all the money being thrown around to pitchers now.

The signing of A.J. was a necessity for the Jays. And while there may have been a better pitcher to be had via trades they Jays were not in a position to do better. If you ask me Zito will end up in St. Louis now cause they have a ton of power bats to trade for a pitcher.

the zito comment was ment to be sarcastic...its called wishful thinking...remember friend, were not all stupid...
Fair enough C_L...... I just find it so annoying when you go on TSN.ca for example that people like to rip into trades or signings for something thats not possible....

my guess is that in 2 years Jays will be trying to get rid of Burnett and Ryan. There was a solution to spending this money in an average free agent pool -- wait! I mean they invest $102 million in 2 guys?!? I wish they were more shrewd with their moves...

"Burnett, 28, is 49-50 lifetime with a 3.73 ERA. He lost his last six decisions while pitching in a pennant race for the Marlins last season, and the team sent him home early after he criticized the organization."

Does this sound like a guy who you want to make a 55 million dollar investment in?

Add to that a $50 million investment in a closer with one...a SINGLE...season with more than 5 saves...

Yup. That's a GM who deserves to be re-upped for 5 more years...thank gawd I'm not a Blue Jay fan...*SMH*

a tidbit?

Burnett's contract will be the most lucrative tendered to a free agent pitcher since Chan Ho Park received a $65 million, five-year contract four years ago by the nearby Texas Rangers. Since, Park has gone 26-26 and was dealt by the Rangers to San Diego last season.

From MLB.com. An omen?

...Guess the wife told him to say yes to Toronto.

He's a solid thrower and a good number 2 behind Halliday. Those two with Chacin and Lilly holding up the rear and all of the sudden we have a good corp of pitchers.

What I appreciate is JP. He says he's going to get so-and-so, and gets them. Rumor has it JP has a trade in mind that involves Bobby Abreu coming over for Wells. Basically the same player stat wise but a good change to shake things up in the batting order.

They should keep O-dawg IMHO.

Gotta give JP credit for that. He got the 2 guys he went after, so far. He now has $102M tied up in 2 questionable pitchers. He also has a nice contract extension. Is there anyone available named CJ?

Great signing JP. This deal finally gets the Jays a dependable second arm in the rotation following Halladay. So now its Halladay, Burnett, Towers, Chacin, and perhaps Bautista, Bush, Downs, or Lilly. That looks pretty good to me. All we need now is a bat. I heard the FAN590 say they were looking at maybe Blaylock, Dunn, even Piazza. Going to be interesting in the next few days.

Oh BTW, if you have time JP can you go and give Rob Babcock some pointers? LOL
