What I appreciate is JP. He says he's going to get so-and-so, and gets them. Rumor has it JP has a trade in mind that involves Bobby Abreu coming over for Wells. Basically the same player stat wise but a good change to shake things up in the batting order.
I'm not a fan of this trade either.......... Wells is a gold glove winner with the same offensive stats. Jays are better off trading for Adam Dunn IMO. Package Rios with the Cat or Hill or Adams, then trade Batista for Mench if possible. Trust me you'd have your potent batting order then.

No we have to keep Wells. I don't think that would be a good thing to trade for Abreu. We have a solid core of guys now. The only one I would not be sad to see leave is Hinski. Sorry buddy, liked him for a while, but he just ain't cutting it now.

I would even go out on a limb and sign Frank Thomas.. he would make a good everyday DH he still has a few hits left in him. And if you keep him from playing first base he should be able to go injury free.

Great signing JP. This deal finally gets the Jays a dependable second arm in the rotation following Halladay

Except he's not dependable. He's been in the majors 7 seasons, only pitched more than 200+ innings twice...I will however choke on my words if he proves me wrong. I am not a Jays hater, I'm just scratching my head over these lucrative deals...

Well, lucrative is definately the word, but I think Toronto needs to do this because we are in a different country. Otherwise, why would you want to come here? We need to over pay, it sucks but that is just how it is. Look at all the other sports too. Its a shame, but it comes with the territory.

2/3 of the best FA's? No way.

Burnett "top" starter on the market, I'll give you that. But not Ryan, Wagner is much better than Ryan, I dont care about the whole age thing...and as Phnine eluded too, they got these FA's by overpaying!

and im sure JP will address that...these winter meetings is shaping up to be one with alot of players being moved

what he should be doing is trying to offer Batista and Hinske around before he continues to overpay other free agents to come and play to Toronto, i mean for the kind of money that he is overpaying them...... is not like we are asking them to go and play in Iraq

To an American, you might as well be going to Iraq. If it's not the usa then it's a mysterious outside land.

I was wrong AJ is here!

I like JP. The Jays minor league system is the envy of all of baseball. That takes time my friends. 4 years into his job I think he's done outstanding. If he stays here for a Pat Gillick like period of time then he will get Pat Gillick results. It took Gillick 16 yrs to win a WS and 9yrs to get to the playoffs. JP inherited a disaster and has turned it around. He's on the right track and Godfrey knows it.

A Cj

There is CJ Nitkowski. There must be a DJ somewhere somehow, lol.

As for Ryan guys, yes, he has one year of saves under his belt, but he had a really good year the year before, he just wasn't the closer, and the year before that, he was about a 3.40 ERA, which probably meant he got schelacked a few times. Don't just go by the saves. I'm not saying he Mariano Rivera, but even he was a setup man for Wetteland at one point. Ryan was the set up man for Julio before hand.

It doesn't matter if the Jays are over paying, the fact is the Jays are actually spending I do recall most of the fans were complaining that we aren't spending enough to compete the Yanks or the Red Sox

I for one will be going to more games this year

As important as getting a bat or two is getting a DECENT backup catcher...Greg Zuan was the heart of this team, he grinded almost a whole season behind the plate with no rest and still was productive. Thats why maybe Piazza would be an ok pick up, if we can get him for 4mil over 2 years....Hes not the superstar he once was. But he still has some pop in his bat and can give Zaun some relief in the backstop,
Piazza can't really catch anymore, he is more of a 1B or DH right now

Cheers to that! Do you think we were this excited about the Jays this time last year? I for one am checking the 'net five times a day just to see what JP is up to to make his team better. I will definately be seeing more games this coming year over the 3 I've seen in the past two years.

I think we'll need to save some money in our budget for when Doc becomes a FA in two years so JP may just stick to trades from here on out. I'd be surprised if there's another big money signing. We do have a great farm system (probably every team has a star from our farm system) and current roster players that we can dangle for a big bat or two.

I'd laugh my ass off if they go and get Damon (I hope not). According to this link, http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_y...LYF?slug=rs-hitters120505&prov=yhoo&type=lgns their top ten available hitters aren't that palatable.

well according to that article we have no chances with Manny Ramirez and no interest in Frank Thomas BUT it may be a chance (which seems to be the rule so far in these signings) to take on Nomar Garciaparra he was a great infielder and Toronto could use him at SS

O- Hudson at second, Garciaparra at SS and Koskie at third sounds pretty good plus it would be interesting to see him play against Jeter and A-Rod once again.....now if we can only get something in exchange for Hinske and Batista then maybe we will have one heck of an infield next year

Well, neither Nomar nor Piazza are the studs they used to be and frankly, this a weak FA batch. But at the right price, they could be useful. The rest of the list seems to be young guys with power but no average. And kids like that either take a long time to develop or don't develop at all.
