Alberta separation is overblown. Just a small % of hotheads.
Exactly. Also, no province can unilaterally separate. Yup, Alberta needs a unanimous OK from the other nine provinces and from the House of Commons if they want to leave, and there's nothing they can do about it. And even then there's a shitload of legal issues since the land that makes up the province is legally the property of the Crown.

In legal terms, it's like me saying to the landlord that owns my apartment building, "I want the title for this building and all it's assets. Give it to me or I'll throw a temper tantrum."

I will add LaRue that the Bloc and Quebec Premier have publicly come out in support of Carney. Do you really think he will screw over Quebec farmers at this point?

Any deal will continue to protect farmers nation wide.
Pay no attention to Happenin Johnny and the passive-aggressive Oil&Gas they believe in oligarch rule. They believe that Canada should supplicant itself to a serial lying coward. Look at what he's doing to Ukraine.

Dude, they have Senators that will never remove the softwood lumber tariffs.
then Canada will have called Trumps bluff and ask him if he is really in charge
"Do you want free trade or not ?"
'' Are you not the artist of the deal ?"
if not back the fuck up and honour our previous deal
'We have offered everything you asked for, now meet our demands"

I didn't say replace trade volume, but we can diversify it. Especially LNG. This has shown what eggs in one basket causes. We can't trust them.
Again, we can not replace the trade volume with the US

I'm fine with the dairy prices. And mine comes in cartons.
does the carton have a picture of $400 billion in missing trade ?

And I have been checking labels for years. I mostly eat fresh food anyway. Cook at home. Buy from farmers markets St. Lawrence Market. Trips to Mennonite and Niagara region.
good for you
another example of someone who thinks he can project his experience onto 40 million of his countrymen.

do you have any idea how critical the US trade relationship is to Canada ?
likely 500,000 to a million jobs
We are a export oriented country and the US is our largest customer ...by far

if Ontario loses the auto sector, the Ont govt will lose billions in tax revenue
the Ont govt is swimming in debt, (the highest non-sovereign debt per capita ratio in the world or very close to it now )
such a loss would definitely mean the end of universal health care in Ontario

ponder that as you stare at your carton of Canadian milk , while munching on cereal made by Post or General Mills

No need. We just have to wait them out.

Supply ships from China are dropping by 35% next week. And the ones coming aren't full. Scarcity and even higher prices are coming, coupled with layoffs, a housing down turn, a fall stock market crash, a tourism crash, and I believe very real probability of civil unrest.

We can ride it out, and watch the drama. Trump is going to have to give in. Or come under fire like no administration has seen in forever.

I enjoy occasionally his rants. I'm sure he will blame all the poor people once the shit gets worse

So very wrong
1. your argument implies we should have just ignored Quebec's separation threats, which most certainly have not been ignored
2. if your wife wants a separation / divorce and you do not . she will leave you and there is not a damn thing you can do about it
3. What do you think Trump would do if Alberta declares independence and Ottawa says , no you cant?

if Alberta, Saskatchewan, and / or BC declare independence, they will leave
they will just stop sending tax remittances to Ottawa

Canada can not afford to wait this out

Trade, including both exports and imports of goods and services, accounts for roughly 67% of Canada's GDP. This means that international trade is a very significant driver of the Canadian economy. In fact, Canada's exports alone support nearly 3.3 million Canadian jobs.
U.S. trade to gdp ratio for 2022 was 27.04%

He just paused the auto tariffs. So yes we can.

Trust the CEOS you worship. The ones from Walmart, Amazon, Target, Home Depot all showed up to the WH to tell Trump inventory shit hits the fan in 2-4 weeks. UPS is laying off 20,000 in anticipation of a delivery slowdown. And there are tons more happening unreported by the press. The tinder is building up under this administration.

Very soon the donor class is going to tire of this. What happens then?

so no deal so that a cartel of rich Quebec dairy farmers retain their market share?
vs 500,000 to a million job losses ?

we shed ourselves of supply management wrt wheat and other grains and the sky did not fall

We will end up with the existing deal and a few tweaks for Trump's ego. Just like in 2018.

We haven't had to do it since Free Trade became a thing. It won't happen now. Better a Canadian farmer than a US conglomerate.

Carney has stated he wants a comprehensive deal on trade and security with the US

that is not
'lets wait him out''

wrong
supply management and specifically dairy will be the contentious issue

as long as we are are going to give, lets get a win on the softwood lumber issue

wrt to the auto sector
Canada will lose it if Carney imposes carbon taxes on industry , while trump lowers the the tax burden on industry

And how long do you think that will take? Months? Easily. Comprehensive Trade deals don't just appear. Teams covering all the miriad details will spend lots of time at this before either leader gets involved. And the longer it takes, the more pressure on Trump.

Seriously, you think him and Carney will put this together just between the two of them? Over a weekend? If Trump wants a new deal it will cost the time to do it. And I don't think he has that much time. So they will use CUSMA and he will try to rip chunks out of it. We will say no. He will bitch. Wall St will tell him times up.

And life will go on.

We shall see. But I think Carney is not about to screw Quebec over. He wants more seats.

Honestly, the Bloc serves almost no purpose now. Their primary job is to preserve Quebec, but french speaking citizens continue to drop, they are pushed out the province's major city and are not really sufficient on their own.

It will be interesting to see how Carney will convince Alberta to give more money to Quebec. :ROFLMAO:

He doesn't have to. He just has to keep things the way they are.

And oil prices are dropping. Things are about to get tighter out west.

That will be hard to do.

Good luck selling Quebec on high immigration. Good luck tell Alberta to fund it as well.
