If I was picking, I'd take Kevin McHale over Carl Malone too....he's got crazy length.....and in spite of his length the guy could shoot a fallaway too....impossible to defend.
But as for the reverse.....McHale would probably shut down Karl Malone on defense.
Its real difficult to ignore Tim Duncan at Centre too. It is real tough to decide between generations.
I'd have to agree with not picking Shaq. Free throws do matter at the end of the game....and the end of the game does kinda matter.
Lastly, with all these big guys on the court. The game would move really slow. Iverson instead of Magic Johnson might actually work better for the team????
Difficult to know how teams like this would have played together because of the egos involved. My criteria would be; strong at both ends of the floor, team oriented, an unstoppable move. Pretty much I agree with Fingers picks, but would have Kareem at center. No one living then or since could have stopped his sky hook.

It's never fair to compare different generations of players, in any sport.
In order to be the considered one of the BEST of all time, in my opinion, you would NEED to have been a CHAMPION. As great as Karl was, he NEVER won the big one so i wouldn't put him on the list.
I never bought that argument. Barry Bonds is one of the best of all time in baseball... 'roids or no. And he never won the big one. Same goes for Enire Banks. No one argues that Ted Williams was one of the greatest players in history. He never won one. Ditto with Dan Marino in the NFL.
That said I do agree that Malone is the weakest member of the 5. In a few more years I'd say that Kevin Garnett or Tim Duncan might have the numbers to replace him.
Also I have a problem with Shaq being there. He is great and when he is putting the effort he is among the best in history. But sometimes he puts it in cruise control and really hasn't improved his game as much as he should have and doesn't work as hard in the off-season.
