Hi, I posted this in the technology section but have not received any replies so thought I'd try here. I'm looking for some advice please.

We have 2 Blackberry's and one ipad on a Rogers plan. We have the family share voice and data plan with value pack. I pay a basic amount of $85 for my cell, $65 for her cell and $50 for the ipad family share voice and data plan each month for a total of $200 per month before any long distance/roaming charges. I feel this is expensive and just wondering if anyone can recommend an alternative plan (eg Wind, Koodo etc) to Rogers for those of you who have a similar set up and have experience with other providers. Thanks.

how much data do you use, minutes, long distance, international texting, etc?

kinda hard to say what type of deal you are getting at this point.

Waiting until you got home to queue up to use the landline would likely prune a lot of 'luxury/frivolous/unnecessary' calls from your lives and your bills.

Have you called Rogers to get a better plan?
Looking on Rogers.com, you should be able to add the ipad to your plan for $12/month
Or with a Family plan, the two phones for $130 with unlimited local and 4gb data. If they let you add the ipad to that for $12, that would be a deal
Have an idea what you want when you call Rogers.

I switched from Rogers to Koodo about a year ago, saved about 70 dollars a month from 800 "Canada 1 rate" minutes to unlimited Canadian minutes plus 2gb data plus US long distance at 3cents /minute. I travel over most of southern Ontario, and have had no more dead spots than I had with Rogers.

Thanks for the helpful feedback and suggestions. The phones and ipad are used pretty well exclusively for business. I don't do any international texting or many long distance calls. Data useage is fairly low. I'll check with Rogers and also Koodo. The only thing is I heard on the news today that mobilcity is in jeopardy of financial collapse so I wonder about the other smaller providers.

Check rates at http://www.virginmobile.ca/ they are on the Bell network. Was comparing Bell/Rogers, and some other carriers, and Virgin was less expensive. I was also worried about coverage with the smaller carriers. Plus you get 10% of each bill as a credit towards a new phone.

The switch over from Bell to Virgin was instant, kept my same phone number. Still waiting for the final bill from Bell.

How often does the ipad go online away from wifi and away from your other cellphones? Most if not all current smartphones have built in hotspots, so you could wirelessly connect the ipad to your phones to go online. You would then be using your smartphone data package for the ipad, rather than using a separate plan for it.

I have:

200 min local
eve / weekends start at 6:00
call ID / voice mail lite
unlimited text (inc pic & video)
100min long distance
6GB data

My bill, is $60.00
From this it seems to me that you really have to know your own usage profile.
I have unlimited minutes
caller id
voice mail
unlimited text ( haven't tried and don't know if I can do multimedia texts)
2gb data
US long distance 3cents per minute
62 dollars per month plus the US minutes.

I signed up for Public mobile, and am quite happy with them. Their coverage area is all over the GTA, you get unlimited incoming, outgoing calls, unlimited texts, unlimited data for 35 dollars a month. Outside the coverage area its 5 cents a minute. But if your like me and just use it around here its an amazing deal.

I switched to Virgin for all my business usage along with all family and have been happy with the service from Virgin. The prices are much better too. The only complaint I have with Virgin is sometimes voicemails are delayed. I had some client calls popped up 2 days after the messages were left!
