Am I getting weaker or are jar lids getting tighter?

There's no shame in buying a jar opener from Amazon. Works like a charm and no one has to know.
I tried those gadgets with limited success. I included a link to a device I bought that solved my jar opening problems. Hope it works for you.It seems that lately I can't open jars anymore. I have to run them under hot water to make them expand, and then use a towel to grip. Without doing that, it's impossible. I'm 47, but when i was 20 I never had an issue. Even until recently. I don't think I'm that much weaker.
Is it just me, or are the lids getting harder to open?
I'm fed up with struggling to open lids. I found this:

A few taps with the handle of a knife, loosens them easily. Less shards of glass is welcome.

........and why are companies printing things with smaller type. Surely, it's not my eyesight that's gotten worse. Hey.........you kids..........get off my lawn.
About 4 gallon barrels of olives for commercial premises
Have a screw on lid that is huge.
We rinse them out
Wash them.
And then use them to pack food into them, and put two of these into a canvas canoe tripper pack.
And take them wilderness canoe tripping.
Water tight flotation devices when you lash the pack under the thwart.
And odour tight so fewer visits of racoons and bears in the campsite trying to whack the food pack down from the trees we have slung it between.
But be sure to keep a rubber strap adjustable car oil filter in the same pack these barrels go in.
Because sometimes that is what is needed to get to barrel lid unscrewed, and screwed on tightly again.

Ok, I confess. I sometime have problems with those childproof jars. In those situations I just go ask a kid or a woman, they can open anything. LOL
It's just you. You're getting older, just like the rest of us.
Those jar openers are OK. You can get one at Dollarama to try for $4, but they only work with certain jar sizes.
But when I'm desparate, I use this. It's handy to have two... one for the lid, one for the jar... but not absolutely necessary.

Just start using the muscles more. Get a grip strength thingy.
With respect to age comments. I’m well into my 50s, aka closer to 60 than 50. Not sure I’ve ever been in better shape/stronger ( a few SPs guessed my age in the 40s) and I am not a gym rat ( don’t go at all) , health nut. That said, I am definitely not sedate or a couch potato. I use and abuse and I do mean abuse, my muscles every day.
failing that ( excercise more) there are plenty of gadgets on the market for opening lids. My partner uses one like this ( same as post above) when I’m not around. She has no issues.

And this is why I know jar lids are being put on tighter.
I have one of these. Used to work great for opening jars. Lately however, this tool won't even work. Instead of opening it is just slicing into the lid while the lid remains unmoved. If a tool like this is doing physical damage to the lid while still unable to open it. The lids are being put on too tight.
