I was playing around with the Settings on my new phone. I have a OnePlus 12 running Android 14.

In Accessibility & Convenience, there is a submenu for Gestures & Motions; which has a submenu for Screen-off Gestures.

Enabling these settings allows you to draw letters on the screen of your device with your finger when the screen is off to launch certain apps.

For example, if you draw a "V" with the Screen Off, it turns on/off the Flashlight.

I see I can also enable the audio recorder by drawing a "W" on the screen when it is off. Audio recording in Canada is "one-party consent", and this could provide a discreet way to record audio if one feels the need to maintain a record of a conversation with another person.

Thank fuck for one-consent in Canada, saved my ass in some legal bullshit I was in.

Anyways, how's the phone? Is it as bad ass as it looks in the reviews with that giant camera? lol

Phone's great! Love the 120 Hz Refresh Rate and the camera was well worth the premium price! OnePlus guarantees 4 major Android updates and 5 years of security updates, so I'll get plenty of use out of it.

My brother-in-law just upgraded to Galaxy S24; when he comes over for Thanksgiving we'll compare and see who got the better phone lol

Holy shit, 4 Android alone is a lot, 5 security is great.
Congrats on the phone, S24 is nice too, but I think you got the winnner.

I may have to look into the 12
Check to see if you have Mobile Device Insurance on your Credit Card. I usually don't opt-in to the Extended Protection Plans, and OnePlus doesn't actually offer one in Canada.

I have Mobile Device Insurance on my VISA Infinite card with CIBC, and it will provide some coverage if my phone is lost/stolen or accidentally damaged within 24 months of the purchase. There are some conditions; but it's better than nothing and it's included with the Annual Fee for the card. Great thing to have if you prefer to BYOD.
