Indeed, RIM and M$ paid the price from a market share perspective.

Q/Q Apple's unit sales almost doubled while their share was nearly flat..... I don't see a popping bubble I see a market that is growing quickly and a new, low cost provider, that is taking much of that share from the less attractive players (M$, RIM, Symbian).

That is such incredible growth in only 1 year

Gartner had forecast that Android wouldn't be in this position untill 2012

If you were to ask Jobs if he'd prefer to have Android out of the mobile market, would he say yes or no?

I'm sure he'd say he'd rather have M$ and RIM out of the market as well..... so when you can't support your point you change it....

Android is being very successful, no question about that, just not at the expense of Apple, look at the M$ and RIM market share changes Q/Q - Apple is selling iPhone 4s as fast as they can make them, Android is not a governor on their growth..

You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.

Of course, that goes without saying, but I just wanted to see you say it. Why? Simple, because Android is a threat, that's all it boils down to.
They're the only very real competitor that Apple has in terms of a good phone OS and along with hardware. Naturally Apple has the edge because they're a year or a little over a year longer in the game.

Thank you again.

You saw Android's (growth) numbers in a year correct?

Some fantastic Android phones are available, I think at this point the phones are more polished than the OS and apps available for it. Once 3.0 comes out I may tell the office to replace my blackberry but for now I'm on the fence and I'll wait to see what the next iOS and Android OS offer.

I've been saying for some time that Android will be very successful and that's a good thing for consumers - it will add options, lower costs and give Apple some much needed competition (as RIM and M$ are quite pathetic at the moment). What I object to is the simplistic and childish zero sum game analysis that if Android is successful then Apple must be failing - the Apple bashers (you among them) don't seem to be able to grasp a market that's exploding (smart phones and tablets) creates a space where multiple firms can be very successful with different strategies.

Never did I say Apple is failing. My point was that Apple's phone isn't the only well structured player in the game.
I told you plenty of times, I like their products, but do feel they're overpriced for what you're getting (PC parts and another OS).
I love playing devil's advocate, that's another part of me in all this.

This one will be the new Flagship Android in the new year

Flagship Samsung phone pics leak, has super AMOLED display

Engadget got its hands on a leaked slide showing Samsung's upcoming flagship Android phone. Some rough tech stats have also leaked.

For those disappointed by the look of the Nexus S, check this out. Engadget has obtained a corporate slide showing a new “flagship” Android phone from Samsung. While it could be a fake, the slide shows an extremely sleek and thin phone running Android Gingerbread and Google cloud services. The device’s super AMOLED2 screen measures 4.3-4.5 inches, a bit larger than Motorola’s Droid X. We don’t know the states of sAMOLED2, but we assume it’s nicer than the standard AMOLED screens on current generation Galaxy S phones. The device is set to launch in the first half of 2011.

The phone will also have 16 GB of onboard storage, an 8 megapixel camera that can record 1080p video, has a 1.2 GHz processor, Bluetooth 3.0, and 14.4 Mbps HSPA network connection. Samsung’s Galaxy S series has performed quite well, with more than 7 million units shipped in the United States so far.

Like Galaxy S phones, the design appears to borrow heavily from the iPhone. This device, however, appears to mimic the iPhone 4, with a single button on the bottom and silver side paneling. Engadget believes it could debut as early as February, 2011. Samsung may unveil the phone at the Mobile World Congress

next year we will see incredible performance and features from the new "superphones"
it may not be a good time to get locked into long term contracts or Apples closed wall ecosystem
