It's happened again. One dead and one missing. There is still daylight at 7:30PM at this time of the year . The problem is that too many boaters don't know the "rules of the sea".

yea especially younger boaters. I went up there a few years ago and was amazed how many teenagers were driving these expensive boats. I was told in that area that there is a lot of rich cottage owners and so you would see their kids steering these amazing boats blast past you blaring music and ignoring distancing rules, causing huge waves for other boaters and close to the shoreline which I was told was illegal too. They're spoiled and don't give a shit trying to impress their friends.

Part of the problem is the pointless licensing system. You can take an online multiple choice to get your Pleasure Craft Operator Card, which is good for life. There's no on-water training unless you decide to take a Canadian Power Squadron Course. The tests is only about $50, but I think I've seen it as cheap as $30 at the boat show. The other problem is that power boaters are way too aggressive or don't pay attention. I go sailing and and power boaters have a nasty habit of passing really close.

Some people are ignorant of the rules or just don't follow them...I was kayaking at Kawarthas on the weekend and even though there are signs of "no wake"...the jetski riders tend to ignore them...It must be really fun to be in a jetski, but you don't have to be a douche to have fun...

Here
I am a very Avid sailor and since the pandemic started people have been buying boats like crazy but not getting any training or even have a boat license. There have been so many emergency on the lakes authorities tell us they can't keep up. For some reason people just seem to get more stupid when they're around water

Yeah, there also seems to be a lot more mayday calls this year. Vessel on fire, capsized, person in the water, etc. I. heard one last weekend where an unresponsive person was pulled out of the water near Burlington. Not sure if they made it out alive.

Same rich ''punks'' who drive their daddys BMW's Mercedes etc all hours of the night speeding loud exhausts racing etc. Should we really be surprised?

I found out at a young age that when you steer to the left, the back of the boat moves to the right. Almost killed my brother and sister ( in another small boat) by trying to buzz by them

Some boaters are assholes. I see it all the time. Houseboats have cut into my casting ranges, aggressive fishermen in fast bass boats doing 180 turns around me, and yes - people don’t know the rules of the sea. They assume it is like driving a car and the rules are the same.

SOME..MAYBE MOST..but your post looks like your painting all boaters with the same ASSHOLE brush. There are more responsible boaters than irresponsible including myself.
Same as when someone says all motorcycle riders are Asshole.

Most accidents occur on motor and rowing boats (up to 90% of the total statistics of accidents), while accidents on boats account for 3-5% of the total number of accidents. The share of accidents on inland waterways is over 50%, on non-navigable waterways - up to 40%, in coastal areas of the seas - 5-7%. The owner of a pontoon boat must never forget about the safety of the passengers and, correspondingly, observe the safety measures of being on the water. It is necessary to wear a lifejacket because most people who died in accidents on sea vessels did not wear a lifejacket. Wearing a life jacket on yourself and your passengers can save their lives! I remember when we were yacht rentals in miami and headed out on the high seas in the evening. We got caught in a pretty good storm, but it was our fault for disobeying the captain. I don't want to go out on the high seas in the evening anymore.
