saw this ad on craigslist for a 2006 Lexus, for 2,800.00, i answered knowing it was a scam, but who really falls for this crap. here is the response i got back, think ill mess with this person and have a little fun :)

Hello,
Sorry for my little delayed response, but I'm in Italy right now and I have been very busy. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying the car. Why is the price so low? I am going trough a divorce, and I had to move in Italy. I cannot register the car here, as it is made for USA , according to USA standards. So all that I want to do now is to sell the car at this price, because I need to sell it fast (I've already made a deposit here to buy me another). The title is clean and you will have absolutely no problems to register the car. It is in immaculate condition, rust free, no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident. It has 93110 miles. The motor runs very well (6 CYLINDERS, Gasoline 3.3 L), transmission automatic. The interior looks great (NO SMOKING). This car needs nothing. I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and have little time at my disposal. I already have tones of emails so I hope you understand that I need to sort them out. The price is $2,800.00 USD and I'll take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the car, to be sure that I don't waste my time with endless discussions. This way, I shall be assured of the serious intentions.

Some of the most fun that I've had was replying to those email scams from some recently murdered govt. official's family member trying to get money out of the country. I was actually quite surprised by how many emails, back and forth, they were willing to send as I led them along. I'd highly recommend your doing the same with this clown!

The best part comes when you get deep into the email exchange and discover the vehicle is not only in storage, but the poor vendor just discovered the storage company put it in a CN container and it's now sitting on a side spur in Thunder Bay ... so, no, as it turns out, you can't have your local Lexus dealer give it a quick inspection ... and gosh, there seems to be a problem having it unloaded for a Thunder Bay Lexus dealer to look, even if you'd be happy to take a remote report.

Had a friend go through this, but at that time the Lexus vendor was working in England.

Did your friend know it was a scam or were they "taken in"?

There was no effin way my buddy was going to transfer funds without at least a mechanic's inspection if he couldn't see the vehicle himself.

The other thing he insisted on was the VIN so he could verify ownership history and/or accident history.

My pal started to find it a bit entertaining and he had lots of patience. He kept asking the "vendor" polite, sincere questions, not just about the car, but also about himself ... the nature of his job, why his company transferred him, his boss's name as a character reference ... stuff like that.

He would occasionally forward me some of the email exchange for laughs ... can you believe what he's saying now?

Eventually my pal got tired of the game, and sent an email saying that since the vendor couldn't make the vehicle available for certified mechanic inspection, couldn't provide the VIN, couldn't verify the legitimacy of his "job transfer" claim, the vendor clearly must be a crook. End of story.

Hmmm. This should make you suspicious. The seller cannot register the car, yet the purchaser won't have a problem ??

Saw an ad on kijiji about 2 years ago for a 2007 Camry LE fully loaded. The guy wanted to sell it for about $6,000. Low KMs, no accident, no-smoking, and the car will be delivered to my door.
After my first e-mail, he said he's in the Canadian army and they're sending him back to Afghanistan, so he needs some money quick. The car is somewhere I don't remember and it's in a crate ready to be shipped. He even provided me the car's VIN. I checked the VIN and it says that the car is originally bought in the U.S.
Way too sketchy for me, I didn't even bother sending him a reply even if he provided me the car's VIN.

Used to go camping with a middle ages recreation group down in the States every year. One of the other Canadians would decorate his camp with strips of wallpaper telling Americans that that particular weekend was the "great wallpaper festival" in Canada. He had a few of us Canucks in on the joke so when the Yanks asked us if it was true we could assure them that indeed it was. :D

after responding to her that i was very interested , here is her follow up email.

Hello ,
As I told you in my first e-mail, I am in Italy. Before leaving I had prearranged the deal with eBay Motors so my presence isn't necessary. The car is in Rome, Italy, at the shipping company, ready to be delivered. The car will arrive at your address in 3-5 working days. The shipping cost is included in the total price of the car! You will have 15 days to test it and inspect the car prior to make any purchase. So if you want to make this deal I need the following details from you:
full name and address
shipping address
phone #
After I will have all this details I will forward them to eBay Motors and I will proceed the order. eBay Motors will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that i am covered by them and that I am legit seller. Waiting your email with the requested details.

PS: I won't receive payment until you receive and inspect the item!
Regards!!

Hmmm .. maybe we could all email "issabela" and start a bidding war ... see how committed she is to honoring this deal with jj.

Important Notice!
Most of the bank's are not aware of our eBay privacy and policy so to achieve a smooth and pleasant transaction we suggest you to send the money for a personal business - MML033556411.
A scathing indictment of the international banking community, no doubt.

By the way JJ, perhaps you should inquire a bit more about the shipping method, timing, insurance, etc., and reconfirm that "issabela" is picking up that cost, just to ensure it won't show up as a surprise for "Jeremy."

Also might inquire as to whether you are responsible for return shipping costs should you opt for the 15 day return policy, and if so, what is the actual cost of shipping a vehicle across the Atlantic?

Uh yeah. That's why many American's don't know what the capital city of Europe is!
Rub, from an early age, Americans are taught, at home and in school, about our good friend and neighbor to the north, Canada. We learn that, although Canada is a country with a rich history, a diverse, multi-cultural society, and a magnificant geography, it is also a country whose citizenry suffers from a collective lack of self-esteem. This lack of self-esteem is manifested largely by 3 common traits:

1. The need to constantly remind Americans of all of the famous "Canadians" who live there (e.g., Jim Carrey , Alex Trebek),

2. Taking credit (in some cases partial credit) for inventions or discoveries made by people who were either born, or lived a part of their lives, in Canada (e.g., James Naismith and basketball, Thomas Edison and the telephone),

3. Asking Americans silly questions about Canada (or passing off outlandishly false statements as fact) in an effort to demonstrate how dumb and out of touch Americans are.

In this 3rd case, Americans have been taught to play along with our friends to the north in an effort to help boost their self-esteem and sense of worth and value. Not suprisingly, it's a strategy that continues to produce very positive results.

Oh, and by the way, I did a Google search for the capital city of Europe... FYI, there isn't one! Whose the smart one now? :D
