Why is it that gas prices follow oil prices pretty quickly on the way up but not on the way down?

A quick look at oil company profits will tell you why. Same as banks, insurance companies, telecommunications providers, cable tv, real estate agents, media conglomerates, soap companies, pharmaceutical companies...either they exist in a protected self-regulated market, giving them a virtual monopoly...or they make something we think we cannot do without, so...the shareholders get rich and we pay.

The days are gone when making a good product and offering superior service is actually an activity worth persuing.

You will probably hear from the oil companies that the cost at the pump reflects what it cost for them to produce the gasoline that's in the tanks at your local gas station.

However, we ALL know that they raise the cost of the gasoline in the tanks, whether it cost them more or less to produce......

We all know why they do this: so they can rape us a little more.....

The US and Canadian Petro-Chemical Associations have towed the same party line on this issue for over 20 years.

1. If the price of crude goes up then that they needs to be reflected in the price of gas simply because that is the market.

2. If the price of crude goes down then the actual gas that is in the system needs to be used first before any reductions in pump price will occur.

Now it takes about a minimum of 3 months for any crude oil to actually be processed and start making it into pumps so of course this is nonsense. As of late they have been moving away from this logic since upon scrutiny it is of course a double standard instead moving toward a blended argument of contract speculation and market price reality. Again it is a false argument where they justify keeping prices artificially high.

Ever see those neat little stickers on the gas tanks showing that they get next to nothing for selling the gas and that taxes and other factors are the cause of prices? They neglect to mention that after they buy the crude oil it goes through a number of different processing/transport etc. that are all companies that they own and at every step they of course mark up the price every step of the way so they are making profit on profit on profit etc.

it is simple, this is good business, make as much money as you can without pissing off people.

Basically the population is programmed to love being screwed over by the big companies that own the planet.

gas prices should be retarded with respect to crude. How does today's price of crude affect gas in the statation manufactured 3 weeks ago at a different crude oil price?

I noticed the same thing.

But as you mentioned, it's basically a rhetorical question. We all know the answer. Assholes.

If you mean the various governments, then I wholeheartedly agree. That lying POS harper said he'd reduce the GST on gasoline if it went over $1.00 per litre. Anyone seen this reduction?

NOT

I stand by my opinion that ANY politician that makes a xampaign promise and doesn't fulfill it? Gets immediately impeached.
