If i had a choice between powerful and influential teachers or Politicians.I'd pick teachers hands down everytime.
Except that what we actually get are horrendously bad teachers that are insulated from reality by their union.

They're never happy.

From 1943 to 1985 Ontario had continuous Progressive Conservative governments, 42 years where teachers and other unions made great gains while fighting against the ruling party.
Then when Bob Rae's NDP came in, all the unions worked even harder to boot them out. So we gave them an ex-teacher, Mike Harris - were they satisfied? LOL

No lobby group or interest group is ever happy.

I may be a basketcase but my finances are in order.

Considering the nasty effect that Hudak's mentor had on education, I can't blame them.

The people who should be pissed off are those catholic teachers who now have to pay $60 even if they like the Conservatives.

Unions and corporations should both be prevented from participating in election campaigns in any way. No donations. No advertising. No lobbying. Nothing.

Yup, teachers are the root of our problems. Obviously.
Correction, it's not the teachers but rather it's the parasites who run the unions who are the problem. Their sole objective is to look after themselves and further their own politically agenda at whatever cost it takes. All the while claiming to represent the members with a "do as I say, not as I do" philosophy.

I partially agree, if the Union votes to support a given party, that's not so bad. But when a select few unilaterly decide to essentially tax their members to support a party without consulting them, then that is wrong.

Don't forget the members who support the NDP, and want nothing to do with the other parties ( Ive known NDP'S that despise the Liberals)

And their may be member's who support the Green party, who also don't like the liberals.

And there will also be members who may support the Liberal's, but don't want to see their money forcefully being given to them.

So in order to get a job as a teacher in the province, you have to support a political movement.

I remember back in university I had to join the student union, which meant joining the CFS, which meant donating to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
No doubt many student union types would blather on about how the union voted for everything, but I am sure of the CFS was sending money to say the Fraser institute, or the god hates fags club, they would riot. Sort of how professors love academic freedom, just as long as they agree with what you say.

Stupid me, I thought one should be able to get a job in the public sector or go to university without being made to support a political party or think tank. That this is allowed to go on has has been going on for many years is just one more thing that sickens me about people.

Supporting a party or cause is not a precursor to getting a teaching job.

It is actually since you have to join the union. Odd that a decidly undemocratic organization feels it necessary to purchase their own premier. It's been a a good deal for them- no accountability on the mediocre school performance compared to other provinces plus a billion in more spending for kindergarten.

Dalton - bought and paid for.

You don't have to support the cause, you just have to join the union.

Of course corperations and other groups do political donations. Do you have the same criticism of them?

And are you suggesting that other parties, particularly the Tories don't get money from organizations? Like big business?

Man you really have got some slogans going, but not much analysis.
