Hi there Mr. WoodPeckr, from reading your posts I think you're one of the most IT knowlegeble and willing to help members here; and I have a few questions that I'd really appreciate your thoughts on :WoodPeckr said:Not Norton 2009!
Norton 2009 is reported to NOT be the resource hog it has been the last few years.
That said I still prefer Avast for the little I use Windows.
As far as I'm concerned Linux is the best AV software in the world....![]()
I would setup a dual boot system so you can use either Vista or Linux. You just need to create a 20GB partition for Linux, leave the rest to M$. This is what I did with my 160GB laptop and it runs both OSs great.smuddan said:1) I have recently purchased a HP Mini 2140 with 2GB Ram/160GB h/d and it has Vista Home Basic; would I be wise to download Linux instead if it is the best AV software in the world and it's free ? Would I have to delete/uninstall the Vista first? Would the change have any impact on other functions ?
Either OS should run fine.smuddan said:2) Earlier I also had purchased a HP Compag 6730S which came with Vista Business and XP Pro discs; Would I be able to use the XP Pro on the Mini ? Would it cause any problems on the 6730S?
Avast pulls the same stuff, they try to trick you into paying for their AV. Just check carefully in their site and select the free version, which I believe is still free. Or you could go to www.Download.com and check out the free AV available there. AVG Free version is listed there as the #1 Most popular download right now. Avast is #3.smuddan said:3) Last month I downloaded AVG on a Asus Eee 4g and it was free, but today I checked their site and they're now charging for it ? Have they just changed? or I was reading something wrong.
Thanks for your help. Really appreciated.WoodPeckr said:I would setup a dual boot system so you can use either Vista or Linux. You just need to create a 20GB partition for Linux, leave the rest to M$. This is what I did with my 160GB laptop and it runs both OSs great.
