isn't the point of an award show to give artists a forum?

I have always felt Michael Moore was a pompous, self important, windbag. His "documentaries" are some of the most unsubtle, manipulative, overbearing pieces of tripe you will ever see. While I don't care for his work, I do respect the man for believing in what he does, and for having the smarts to use his films to spell out what he believes for people who can't figure things out for themselves.

Therefore, I was not surprised when he started in with his anti-war, anti-Bush tirade, at the Oscars. This act fit perfectly with all of the pompous, self important windbag behavior he has always demonstrated. I take this crap with a grain of salt--there will always be someone who will use an award show or some other high visibility forum to espouse their views.

At the end of the day, who cares? I always thought Michael Moore was a windbag, and that hasn't changed. I haven't changed my feelings about the war, about the French, or that the Catherine Zeta-Jones/Michael Douglas coupling is kind of creepy.

Yes

"the Catherine Zeta-Jones/Michael Douglas coupling is kind of creepy"

Agreed! Like the previous joke: Hey Catherine Zeta-Jones, who's diapers do you enjoy changing more, your sons or your husbands?

It was OK when people made pro-war comments or anti-French/German comments...was it the time and place for those?
Comments about supporting the troops are not pro-war. They are just that, supporting people in a difficult situation. As far as the French/German comments....they were made in a comedic moment and never ment to be taken seriously.

Michael Moore's comments were not meant as a joke. He does not agree with the position of his government and he chose to voice his opinion accordingly. He has made a career of doing this. His was there to accept his award for his documentary not his opinions on the Gulf War. I have always thought he had guts but very little tact.

We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elects a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. Whether it's the fictition of duct tape or fictition of orange alerts we are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you.
Not to mention Michael Moore's ficticious "documentary".
His comment about "fictition of orange alerts" makes no sense. Last time I checked Michael Moore has never been allowed into a National Security briefing!

I think Michael has the right to say anything he wants when it's his moment in the sun. I've always found his work enjoyable. The only thing that would have made for a perfect evening would have been if Charlton 'NRA' Heston had been sitting in the front row to see Michael win his Oscar...!
