I imagine Italian and French composers are most prone to
be charmed by the fairer sex. Some of the most ravishing melodies
from films like Georges Delerue's music for the films of BB and
Ennio Morricone's Lady Caliph theme for Romy Schneider
and Cristina's theme for Daniela Bianchi were apparently
product of inspiration by the charm of the most beautiful
women on screen.

Ravel decided to write a piece based on the musical form and Spanish dance called bolero. Ravel went to the piano and played a melody with one finger to his friend Gustave Samazeuh, saying "Don't you think this theme has an insistent quality? I'm going to try and repeat it a number of times without any development, gradually increasing the orchestra as best I can."
