Maurizio Castellan is a regula Caravaggio.

I brought Dr. Taylor Palmby up to speed. She didn't know this painting which kicked off her Rammstein's Dicke Titten video. Half to give her credit, she's doing great work.

Finally, someone wants to seriously discuss art

Albert Bierstadt was best known for his lavish, sweeping landscapes of the American West.
He joined several journeys of the Westward Expansion to paint the scenes. He was not the first artist to record the sites,
but he was the foremost painter of the Rocky Mountain School.

He was not realism as he adds to the painting

He was a romantic painter sometimes called luminism

I love the way the style allows the painter to use his creativity, although it gave viewers
a misunderstsnding of the ugliness and cruelty the west truly was.
Like Roy Rogers did LOL

Very talented and inmaginative in his desire to capture nature's beauty

He uses his imagination here and invites you to do the same.
I see sweeping clouds creating a clockwise vortex into nature.
Beautiful

Oil on canvas . He probably made sketches then painted them in his sancutary

I first found out about him from John Muir's My First Summer in the Sierra, one of his paintings is on the cover. Looking at his landscapes, I get the impression that he spent several hours if not days staring out on the land before him. Taking in the majesty of it all. I'm not sure if he made sketches or not, I wouldn't be surprised if it some were painted on location. What I love most about his landscapes has more to do with the fact that they inspired many to see the benefits of the nature conservation movement that was in its nascent stages at the time he was most prolific. People like to give Muir all the credit but Bierstadt and his paintings were a big help as well

Sarah beheading the Assyrian General Holofernes.
I do not enjoy staring at horror like Caravaggio's "Judith Beheading Holofernes"" or The massacre of the innocents by Rubens
in my post 13

Extremely sad how a religious painting was revered dispite the horror but a beautiful painting that questions religion
was never painted because is was considered blasphemy . Artists were censored

Look how calm Sarah is. The face of the old woman is amazing, she looks like Satan's concubine. The folds of the red cloth.

The Old Testament’s Book of Judith, the beautiful widow saved the besieged city of Bethulia by charming her way into the tent of Assyrian general Holofernes and beheading him, enabling the Israelites to defeat the invading army.

Series II, Joan Miró

IMHO, this painting takes a deep dive into the sub conscious of
archetypal stories from our sapian past as the painting it has caveman drawing feel to it

The beautiful colors, the symbolic images. You could anaslyze it forever
or just let it come to you without thought

The painting was done with feeling, not thought, IMO

Dreams can be messages from our unconscious minds, according to Carl Jung. He believed that dreams speak to us through symbols – not literal words or phrases, but a language of symbols that we can learn to understand.

The Starry Night, Vincent van Gogh, has a dream like feel to it

The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Michelangelo, and is part of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling in Vatican City. This very famous art depicts the biblical moment when God gives life to Adam.

God is on the right . What container is God lying in? WTF? It looks like a
clam shell? Closer inspection it is a human brain. Beautiful !

Rodin's " Adam" is at AGO. Notice finger on right hand is the finger
receiving life as in the Michelangelo above
Follow the sculpture clockwise and it represents the torture
of our sinful life until death IMHO. Beautiful

Don Quixote by Pablo Picasso

1743028503612.png

Picasso represents Quixote on his horse alongside his chubby companion fighting windmills which defeat him but the windmills look defeated with their broken smallness but only in Quixote's childlike mind .

The illusion of sunlight is created by the use of large black strokes in the foreground and small strokes in the backgound.

Given that the novel is a parody, Picasso’s choice of a childlike abstract style seems deliberate symbolizing
Quixote's childlike blunders that makes a mockery of chivalry

Nothing in this artwork looks real symbolizing the falseness of Quixote

Not great artwork but interesting fun and it is by Picasso.
If anyone else had done it it would have gone unnoticed
Such is the world of art

Great Art Explained is a series of short insights into a great art piece

Considered a great art piece, I never fully understood this painting of a rouge wave where two or more waves breifly combines into one. This is a real event that sank the Edmond Fitzgerald.
