Anyone ever buy a rebuilt car?

I have had both. A rebuilt is junk. Nothing but a money hole.

If your kid wants to throw 44k into a bottomless pit for the sense of style then let him. It will be a very important lesson in life when the repair bills come in. It’s a lesson that with every trip to the garage will remind him that he should have bought a new Corolla.

Let it play out and don’t “I told you so”. And FFS don’t bail him out. We all need to be humbled by shitboxes in our early adulthood. It makes you appreciate a good car even more once you get up to one.
Could your rebuild have been junk because they used the black blood of the earth, rather than oil, Jack Burton?

@themaxx what did your kid do to save 20k?

@poorboy - I wouldn't buy a new car - maybe a 2 year old - because some jealous asshole at school will scratch it !! or worse, seen it in high school.
Probably the best advice right here! Look for a 2-3 year old car (dealerships have many lease returns available) for good price and many still have new car warranty left on them. My buddy turns in is Honda every 2 years because he just likes driving a new car. The ones he returns often have no more than 20k on them

If you’re looking for a rebuild try some of the body shops on Rutherford Rd. in Brampton. There’s been one or two that have been busted by the police, they would take the front end of a wrecked vehicle and the backend of a different vehicle same model weld them together fresh coat of paint and you got yourself a deal. Several years ago I bought an old classic yes it needed some work, kept me busy and now I enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Thats what the kid was originally looking for, came across this rebuild, yada yada yada. Since the used car shop wouldnt negotiate on the Caddy, we went back to the dealership and picked up a 2023 Certified pre-owned Buick Envision Avenir. Nearly identical to the Caddy XT5, but several grand cheaper. And no hassles with the rebuilt brand.

Thanks for the tip, but the whole idea of me originally asking about rebuilts was to avoid problems. I am happy that it worked out for you.

Your son has no taste in cars. 40k and buys a Buick 😆
Don't be shocked when he brings home his boyfriend in it
