Anyone have a solution for someone who perpetually loses their keys?

So... In the past 6 months I have mis-placed my keys on numerous occasions. Sometimes at home. Sometimes not.

I've forgotten them in a store, I have dropped them in a Kleenex box, etc.

I've known I am blonde like this for a long time and tend to clip them to my purse for this very reason. Heck I CARRY 2 sets at a time in this manner because... Well... I'm blonde like that.

Anyone have a suggestion or solution beyond clipping them to my purse, or attaching them to something I must clip to myself (this would be a failure as belt loops are required and I often wear dresses)?

I find myself wishing for a gps type key locator but haven't got a clue if this would work if it were available. The only ones I have found are the ones for people who can't recall where they parked. Clearly I know where the car is. Just not the second set of keys. :frusty:

There are remote devices that you press a button and the item in question will emit a sound and you just follow the sound until you find it, but you have to be within earshot for that to work.

If you are forgetting keys at a store, then I have to ask, why are you taking them out in the first place ? I'm guessing it's because the play you put your keys you also have other things so you are removing keys to get at other items. Keep the keys in a part of you purse that doesn't force you to remove other items, or put them into a pocket that only holds your keys.

Actually... It is dumber then that.

I park the car. Grab a set of keys, grab something off the seat thinking it is just a quick trip in... I then think... 'I'm gonna need the purse!' so I grab that with my other hand... Walk in, set the purse on the counter (and apparently the other set of keys) to free up my hands, do what I need to do... Pick the purse up as that is something I never forget... And leave. Never realize I have done it because when I get to the car I unlock it with the second set of keys, start it with the second set of keys, and go about my day till the next stop or the one after that. Realize I do not have the second set but have a meeting so on leaving the meeting I go about retracing the steps till I find the keys.

I know I could simply have 1 set clipped to my purse but the reason I started carrying 2 sets is because I always take the keys out of the ignition OR grab the purse before I get out to do something... Never both! While I might not lock the door when I am going to take groceries out of the car, or I might have run back into the house for something... There has been more then once someone flagged me down to talk in the driveway, I've gotten out first, left the keys in the ignition, or on the seat, or clipped to the purse and not had a second set... The little one got out of the car, and closed and locked the door. This results in being locked out of the house, and the car when at home, or without anything while in public. The two most entertaining times were at the school with my phone in the car as well still, and in the garage with the radio still playing. I've gotten to the point that I check for 1 set at all times because of this. It is the misplacing a set I just can't get past.

Have all of your locks converted to devices that scan retinas or fingerprints. Or do the smart thing and carry spares.

I have the same problem and my solution works for me. I have places and rituals. In perfect OCD fashion, before I do anything else, I put away my keys and wallets in a specific drawer at home or bin at work.

Get dozens & dozens of copies of your keys cut and keep them in 1 central convenient location, so when you lose one set, you dont need to bother to look for them, just go to the key-jar and get a fresh set. There can only be so many places that you lose your keys, but the supply of keys will be massive, so eventually you'll be losing the keys in the same location, 2, 3 or maybe even more times. By then, you'll see a big piles of keys and you'll realize "geez Maddie, so thats where I've been losing my keys". Problem solved, and you're welcome!!

Maybe in the natural pouch that Mother Nature provided you?

Does your purse have a shoulder strap? If yes, then you can hang the purse off your shoulder which should free your hands to do other stuff.

Yes it has two actually... Either it is hitting me in the arse, or it is crushing my breasts when I lean over to sign something, or fill out a form.

Dear Mad,
Humans like to seek pleasure and avoid pain/displeasure. So, for a long term solution (as opposed to Seth's awesome short term one), you should try to link pleasure to finding/holding your keys. So, reward yourself with sushi, Amy, or various other pleasures when you don't lose your keys.

I do offer myself as a remedy for the dis pleasurable part :) So when u lose your keys give me a PM! Over time, you won't dare to lose your keys.

I do the same thing.

Kitchen drawer devoted to keys, spare change, wallet, cell phone etc. I never leave them by the door in case someone breaks into the house for a quick dash to find keys. Lots of people leave their keys at the front door and thieves know this. Open the door, grab the keys, take the car.

Habit is all that keeps me from misplacing my keys, wallet. I get out of the car, keys go in pocket, unlock the house, keys go in pocket, at end of day keys go in dish on dresser along with other pocket plunder. Other than going between the xar and house the keys are never kept in hand. Now I'm a guy and always have pockets, but girls nearly always carry their purses it seems so if I were you I would be making a habit of keeping my keys in the purse when not in use. As you said, you never forget your purse.

Other than that you could try what we did for a friend of mine and get a key fob that's about 2' x 4' in size :)

How about something like this?
Assuming you have a Bluetooth smartphone (Android or Blackberry).
http://techtipsandtoys.wordpress.co...ps-track-of-your-valuables-or-even-your-kids/
https://www.cobra.com/detail/cobra-phonetag.cfm
The system consists of a smartphone app and bluetooth key fob called “Cobra Tag”. Once synced to your smartphone the app constantly monitors anything it’s connected to and notifies with an alarm when the item it’s attached to is about to go out of range.
Normal bluetooth operating range is limited to around 30ft so the Cobra Tag is designed for items or people you wish to keep in close proximity to yourself.
