It permeates every aspect of life, India is a divided country. On the surface it looks like you have a workforce of hundreds of millions of people but everyone is off doing their own thing.

Apple had to build the factory, the road to the factory, the sewer line to the factory, the power lines to the factory, the power station that supplies power to the factory, the restaurants to feed the factory workers, the schools to babysit the factory worker's kids, etc... The stuff we call infrastructure is not in place.
I don't mean to be negative towards India, but it is a shit show. They still have cows wandering around in traffic in major cities.

Having everything on paper is much different than having it in real life.

Sorry forgot to add, but the BRI has been a brutal disaster. There are a variety of reasons for this but i think corruption is probably the top one. More and more countries are declining future BRI projects and there are far too many countries who now regret the decision to accept BRI projects.
Corruption is almost always endemic in authoritarian regimes.

Isn't it also endemic to more free market states as well?
Sure i agree. Corruption will always find a way to rear its ugly head in either system.

So i guess it comes down to ideology. Do you believe in democracy and free market capitalism or do you think a marxist communist state is better? Which system has proved more prosperous for its people? Which system do you think people naturally sway towards?

For me, ive lived in both for 20+ years and i prefer the ideals of the west.

They're building iPhones, not Western Civilization. I don't expect an SP to be my lawyer, doctor, or estate planner.

Being Canadian I'm all for the middle road.
As in we should take more from social democracies like the northern EU and less like either communism or the free market/oligarchy of the US.

Not sure what your definition of "free market" is here.
And you're going to define China as 'communist' at the same time?

Why don't you start to offer some clarity here with your terms you'd use to define China and the US.
Communist? Democratic? Capitalist? Free market?

I do believe free markets and capitalism does lead to more motivation and productivity which leads to greater innovations. Market disruptors tend to be born out of these systems IMO.

But i see your point with maybe leaning towards places like norway, sweden and finland. Unfortunately, i have never lived there or even visited and would like to go sometime as they all score very highly n important metrics like safety, public health, freedom and happiness in those world surveys. Id also think Taiwan is a good model for the world as well as i have visited there a few times and it also ranks very high in these categories as well as being a hub for innovation.
