We'll see. I'd like NFC, iBeacon or whatever take off. But I think there's a series of challenges for adoption in North America.
I agree that I'd like to see something.. I don't give a shit what it is either. But you're wrong about NA adoption. In the US, quite possibly, but many places accept NFC in Canada and more coming all the time. My visa just had it added and Telus are putting it in their sims. I think that adoption rates here will be high, just like Chip & Pin. The real problem is not the hardware, it's that everyone wants to be the standard. The main reason for google wallet having issue in the US is because the telcos want to run it themselves and stopped the phones they sell from running it.

I use NFC on my phone every day and I seriulously could not live without it. I dont use it for financial transactions on my phone but have NFC tags that I purchased and programmed everywhere to change settings and launch applications on my phone. At home, in office, my backyard, on my keychain and lots more. It boggles my mind that more people do not use this technology.

It's an inelegant solution looking for a problem....
You must be referring to Apple - no solution - just excuses. In the interim Android users (as posted) use NFC for many applications that Apple can't perform.
