Well...enjoy my iPhone so much that I am slowly being sucked into the Apple vortex and thinking about an iPad!
I understand the new iPad4 (?) is soon to be launched with a few improvements...love those bells and whistles!

Does anyone know when the new version of iPad will hit the streets? And will it be a "delayed" launch in the Great White North, like so much else...or available when the US gets it?

Many thanks...

iPad2 is due in a few months....probably April. Rumour has it, that it will have retina display, a nice new dual core processor, front and rear cameras and maybe even an SD card slot, but don't hold your breath on that

iPhone 5 should be available around June so be careful with any new contracts if you think you might want that.

the hobby needs more capitalism
With Jobs out of the picture due to health concerns, expect all Apple products to return to the Pepsi Days of the 90's.
Just like when he was absent during Jan 2009 to the end of June 2009? I remember Apple was doing just fine during this period.

Great advice. The iPhone is released yearly in Spring. It looks like the iPad will be following this trend.

Many thanks folks...the wit and wisdom of this community is always appreciated.
PS....I think the company will do okay without Jobs as they did during his last medical absence. The new iPhones and iPads will still have lots of his influence so should be okay...the bell weather will be when the company launches the "next" new thing...then the critics will be gunning for the "new" management!

I've been looking at either a small notebook, or a netbook, and even looked at an iPad. As cool as these things are, I really don't know what the heck you do with them other than entertain yourself. I'm sure it wasn't designed as a substitute for a laptop, but I hear some people suggesting that they are.

Cute, but not much of a tool.. yet anyway.

No USB, no removable storage, no physical keyboard (given the size), and the fact that it's big kind of kills it for me. If I wanted a giant iPod Touch I'd probably not have an iPod Touch. YMMV. This is one of the first recent Apple products that was more hype than substance.

This is actually one of the signs Apple might be at their high water mark. How many times can you sell something that technically iffy before the glow fades?

We'll see, you would have done poorly betting against them in the last couple of years, it appears they've created a very large segment they now own 85% of. I'm expecting their share of that segment (tablets) to fall as other competitors finally arrive with competitive products but the size of the segment to grow - like the smartphone market.

I think your description is a better fit for RIM

I am not an Apple evangelist but I do have an iPad so let me clarify a few things......

No USB ... not true, with a small adapter called the camera connection kit you get a USB port. I plug my Sony NEX 5 in to my iPad all the time to download pictures. My flip video camera also works perfect with the iPad via USB.

No external keyboard... not true. Again using the USB kit or Bluetooth you can use an external

No SD card reader .... not true. The camera connect kit also comes the an SD card reader.

No external drive support ... this is true. It hasn't been an issue for me yet. All of my content is stored on a NAS at home so I don't really need much storage, but could be an issue for others. I use airvideo to stream movies to the ipad and that really cuts down on the local storage requirement.

I still have a laptop (running Linux) for a few things that just work better with a mouse, but I am down to using the laptop maybe 3 times in a month.

By the time you pack all of that kit, that are all paid accessories, you're so far over the subnotebook / netbook form factor that it begs the question 'why?'. To each their own and all that jazz, but the Touch and the Phone are excellent because they pack a lot of power in a very small device, scaling it that far up is 'odd'. There are 7 inch (small enough to be convenient) Android tables that have a MicroSD card reader and HDMI out built in. There is nothing like dropping and HD version of the Lord of the Rings onto a SD card and plugging it into a HDTV (for example, and at half the price).

Not that I think Apple will go down the drain or anything-- Nor do I even really want them to (If you must have a closed system, make it Apple to make my life easier.), but 'high water mark' had been racing through my head for a while.

EXACTLY!
After all those options are tallied up, they are into your pants for well over a grand! Something only a rube or fanboi could swallow....
