Hi Folks,

I was wondering if any of you had used Apple Self-Storage before?
http://www.applestorage.com/

Or has anyone used anything like this in recent times? I was looking to rent a 5-by-10 space for a few months, and between their security system and insurance program, it seems like a half-decent choice. I'm a total noob at this sort of thing, so I was wondering if could get some feedback on this (good or bad, costing, etc). Thanks in advance.

Cheers

I've not used that particular company.

But I've used self-storage places in both the US and Canada. No real complaints from any of them.

Sometimes, they will make you buy insurance, which increases your monthly payment. But usually, I use these places for a few months, so it's not a big deal.

They have 24 hour access which is good. You'll need to know how to get in, though. Usually, these places have a keypad or RFID card entry.

Make note of the clearances at the gate entry. For example, if you're coming in with a truck, do you have room?

Finally, when you get all your crap out, and leave it unlocked, they will close out your account IMMEDIATELY. I've noticed that they notice right away when you vacate.

Thanks for the feedback. If you don't mind me asking, what was the ballpark cost of the storage that you used in Canada? For some reason, these sites don't seem to advertise it.

The price will depend on a few factors.

Mainly, the location. Is it in a high-rent district? Is it in da 'hood? (That will probably lower your rent.)

Also, the company. Is it a fancy-schmancy slick company? Apple Storage looks pretty slick. You may get a better price from a mom-and-pop, though they may not offer 24 hour access.

The insurance will also affect your price.

In the past, I've paid $30-$40 for a 5x5. When I had a 10x15, it was $170 + $8 for insurance. For a 5x10, I would estimate the price to be $70-$90.

You may also want to check out Public Storage.

They seem to be the McDonald's of self-storage places.

As always, shop around to see which company offers you storage which best fits your budget and needs.
