Automobile Emissions Testing

Hi Folks,

I just inherited a minivan. Upon transfering the ownership, the MTO determined that it needs an emissions test.

Where is a good and HONEST place in the GTA where I can take it, that won't trump-up any false "problems"? Is there anything else that I should know about this game; I am a mere neophyte on this topic. Thanks in advance.

There is an emissions only testing facility (drive through) @ Warden and north of Ellesemere/south of 401 on east side of Warden.

They just do the testing so no worries about other "problems".

there is one at wilson heights and sheppard west at the back of the petro canada station. oilchangers is the place i go there for my emission always have no problem with the test.

Well, I took your advice today, and is was pretty quick and simple. Thanks.
But, it failed the test. The HC ppm and CO % readings were too high. I was told that it was mostly likely an oxygen sensor that needs replacing.

This begs the next question; where can I get a new oxygen sensor installed without getting the shaft (half-shaft, full-shaft, man-shaft, Shaft, or otherwise)?

Depending on the specific vehicle there maybe more than one sensor and depending on the location of said sensors will determine the cost of the sensors replacement.

Most sensors can be relatively easily accessed from under the vehicle as they are usually located before the catalytic convertor or in the convertor.

Also be aware that the sensors themselves vary in price and as a general rule you get what you pay for. There are relatively cheap ones available and there are more expensive ones as well.

Call some general repair shops with your vehicle info, year make and model and engine size and ask what the charge would be to replace all the sensors and how many are there in your vehicle. Then call other shops and ask to make sure that you are getting similar info from each.

Be aware that shop rates vary but most independant shops generally charge $60 - 80 /hr as a shop rate and dealerships are in the $70 - 90/hr range. I would think that you are likely looking at a couple of hours of labour, maybe up to 3 for the labour (book rate, not actual time) plus the cost of the sensor(s)

You can try York Mills Automotive. It is on Leslie(east side) just North of York Mills. Service managers are Rick and Leon. They aren't the cheapest shop out there but they won't do any work that isn't required and they will get you going.
