I see alot making only $30-$40k first year out. Then again, some end up at Chapters or in other retail struggling to make $14k, year and some up to $50... but very few above that unless they completed a rare program such as an engineering field.

btw- my cousin got a job as a welder at age 18 directly after taking trade school and made over $66k his first year working at Electromotive in London. He had to work nights and take every overtime opportunity thrown at him, which he realized put him into an inefficient tax bracket.

My brother decided to go into the same career path after his hockey career was over. he took the trade school at 23 and now makes around $70k at General Dynamics in London and he's now 25.

As stated in depends on the field (and the demand for those fields) as well as your grades. It isn't so much that you graduated but whether you were at the top of the class or not.

I have heard of companies recruiting right from 3rd and 4th year classes in some areas.

And yes, I've also heard many university grads taking McJobs because that was all that was available and yes, if you enter into an apprentice program or go through trade school you are pretty much guaranteed a job upon graduation.

After taxes he makes what?
Income taxes only or all taxes?

After all taxes he probably has about $122.08 left over.....lol....remember: we already give over 50% of our income to taxes. Now if he owns a car and a house? Oh man...HOSED up the BUTT.

But just on income taxes he's probably in the 19% range.....because we get taxed at
15% on the first $37,885 of taxable income, +
22% on the next $37,884 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income between $37,885 and $75,769), +
26% on the next $47,415 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income between $75,769 and $123,184), +
29% of taxable income over $123,184.

But it all depends on whether he has any dependants, gives to GICs etc, investments etc....

My son has open offers coming in to him all the time - Actuarial Science Program - he'll start at about $80K after his Masters Program has been completed - ( he is in that now ) - and even now - he has scored himself huge awards and scholarships - pays for his education, his condominium - leaves him with all kinds of spare cash for himself as well. It's really all about intelligence and applying yourself.

As someone stated earlier - really depends on the industry and position etc.

Based upon people I know (such as nieces/nethews, people in my organization etc) - starting salaries in GTA:

Graduate/Jr Computer Programmer/Techie - 42k
M&A Investment Banker/Analyst - 65k (Over 100k in year 2 including bonus but works 75 hrs a week)
Graduate/Trainee Accountant - 45k
Retail/Store Graduate/Management (big national store) - 24k
Graduate/Junior Mechanical Engineer - 34k
lol @ the average mechanical engineering grad getting 34k as a starting salary.

Probably closer to 47-50

My buddy was offered 28k for his mechanical enginerring degree. This was in the early 2000's. That was the only job offered he got from employers in the GTA. It's true college grads are paid more than university undergrads.

Those are the federal tax rates. Provincial tax rates are about 50% of those rates. (the high tax bracket is around 45-48)

Who cares? If going to university is all about making money, than our society deserves no universities but only trade schools. Many of you miss the point of going to university. Actually, I suspect you all are influenced by today's McCulture of fast fame and fortune being the bottom line, and the general attempt to dumb down the country. Talk about Intelligent Design.

I agree, I do not believe that “graduation” is by itself a good indication of your potential pay. Every year we offer the top 5% to 10% of the 3rd year engineering classes summer jobs to give us a chance to check them out, and to give them a bias for our company to eventually work for us.

By the time 4th year rolls around we are in a bidding war to get the top students. On the other hand an engineer who took bird courses and passed with a 70 is a bargain discount type commodity.

How much? Well top end people start getting offers at $50k. On the other hand last year we hired some “less qualified” engineers for about $30k.

In most cases the ones who start at $50k to $60k are making well over $100k in 10 years.

To coin a phrase “You get what you pay for (if you are lucky), but always pay for the best.”

Only the courses that demanded knowing facts and had exams that required you to have "a right answer". A real scholar knows there is no "right answer" and grades accordingly.
