From a story in the New York Daily News, Bonds failed a 2006 drug test for amphetamines.

Two things on this:

1. If this is true and he did take them, this guy just does not get it. He is the face of the largest drug scandal in baseball history and is also under investigation for lying about steroid use. Now he does this? Wow.

2. Also, he is not only a cheat but a rat. Saying he got it from teammate Mark Sweeney's locker rather then owning up to it is very typical. He just threw Sweeney under the bus and pinned it all on him.

So much for his claim that he has never tested positive on a drug test. Oops -try another one dude.

I sincerely hope Baseball does something before this clown breaks Hank Aaron's HR record. As it stands now, he still does not have a contract with the Giants. Let's hope the deal never gets done.

The home run records that have been broken in that past 10 years should have some kind of notation that states something about the athletes and steroids. Its not fair that Roger Maris broke the home run record in 61 and everyone who broke it since has been accused of steroid abuse.

Here's a slightly different twist on the Maris vs. the steroid group. The likes of McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, etc. may very well have had help in the bulking and strength department, but Maris had tremendous help in having the shortest home right field fence in the majors in 1961. (yankee stadium of course). Granted, he only played half his games there, but being a dead pull hitter, he had a great advantage to hit homers. My point is that the playing fields in baseball are not uniform like football for instance. Nobody ever seems to make mention of this. Just a thought.

Good point. Also consider that in 1961 the AL expanded to 10 teams from 8 which watered down the pitching, so was thought. If they think 10 teams was a watered down league in 1961, 14 AL and 16 NL teams should be more watered down, plus the fact that they now play Inter League games. While Maris was going after 61, Mantle ended up with 54. His season ended early when he was injured (leg infection).

Also, of the 61 home runs, 31 were on the road and 30 at home. Interesting fact.

Watch, nothing will happen to this guy at all. Maybe game suspensions and a fine which he can easily afford. But only if the public pressure starts getting to the President of MLB.
