obvious dumb question:

Did you put it in correctly? Not sure but often they are not uni-directional. Like sim cards in some phones: they can be put in backwards......

The problem may be that it is too dead for the charging circuit to see that it is there at all. I'm assuming that if you unplug it from the wall, it dies.. A reading of 0% isn't accurate... it still has some charge, just not enough for the laptop to attempt to start. Or, not enough to be seen as even being there at all.

If that is the case, the solution is to force charge it until it has enough of a charge to be "seen" by the laptop's charging circuit. If you have a unused wall wart of the proper voltage and a volt meter, you know what to do... If you don't, I'm not going to explain it 'cause you might make a mess. youtube at your own risk.. lol

Take it back and say WTF??
