I've been trying to find a really comfortable set of sheets for almost two years now. It appears that my tastes in bed linen do not correspond to the what most people want. What I'm looking for is something that is white with no patterns, 100% cotton, very soft and heavy. I've visited a range of department and specialty stores in both Canada and the US with no success. The best I've been able to do is match the first three requirements but it seems impossible to get cotton sheets with a high thread count that have a sense of weight to them.

Some of the sales people I've talked to have suggested that what I'm looking for just doesn't exist and after two years of looking I'm beginning to think they may be right.

Has anyone seen any bed linen which might meet my requirements?

Really Retired.....REALLY!
The problem with going to a fabric store is that generally fabric stores do not sell that type of material in a width large enough to make sheets with, without having a seam down the middle. Unless you have a twin bed! LOL
This is usually not an ideal situation for bedding, unless you are making a quilt!

My daughter bought terry cloth bed linen and says that they are very comfortable. Plus warm, althought she used them through the summer without complaint. I wish my wife would buy new linen, the ones we have don't stay on the bed (even just lying there not to mention any actio) and that is very uncomfortable and annoying to me [maybe I'm the prince and the pea]
You could go out and buy them yourself and sneak it under the tree as a gift from Santa to yourself.

Thanks for the suggestions so far but I think I should have provided a few more details.

The sheets I'm currently using are egyptian cotton, about 600 thread count and they are white, very soft and were moderately expensive. In my many attempts to find what I'm looking for I have found soft white cotton sheets (high thread count), or heavy white cotton sheets (lower thread count) but never heavy and soft together.

If you're looking for really great cotton sheets that are almost silk like, look for egyptian cotton with a thread count in excess of 1000. They do tend to be a bit expensive. Unfortunately, these feel "light" to me.

What I'm looking for is something at least as soft as 600 thread egyptian cotton but with a weight similar to that of a Land's End Hyde Park or LL Bean Classic Oxford shirt. When I'm looking for sheets I make sure I wear one of these shirts so that I can just have the sales person feel the weight as an example. Honestly it's not a reason to get a good looking saleswoman to feel my clothes :).

I am really hesitant to order sheets off the internet because I can't feel them first (unless of course the company is willing to send a swatch).

I know I'm being obsessive about this (what sane person looks for sheets for two years in at least 10-15 cities). On the other hand its been amusing to see peoples reactions when I tell them that I am going to spend time looking or sheets while visiting a new city.

What about Irish Linen?
