Between a rock and a hard place
Every week we should nominate a player of the week for the Bertuzzi award.

way out in left field
It almost looked like he was losing his balance and spun around connecting with Vaananen. Now I'm not saying his penalty and suspension isn't warranted but as for his intention, well, that is still up in the air in my eyes.

yeah i thought that too but there is no way Belak didnt mean to hit him on the follow through. He didnt complain too much when he left the game. No one really did.

I like Damien Cox' suggestion. Suspend him for the season, but when the playoffs come, force the Leafs to play him at least 15 minutes a game. That would really punish the team.

I don't know. I watched the replays and the game. I don't think you can put it in the same category as Bertuzzi. He was off balance and was spun around. Whether he meant to hit him or not, only Belak knows for sure. I'm not trying to defend the guy, because I personally can't stand Belak.

I have looked over the replay time and time again and this is my take on it.

Belak was indeed off balance slightly. He seemed to show intent to hit the Colorado player, this is evident purly by looking at the act \ion he took. Normally if you are off balance you will try to right yourself, instead of this belak showed intend by bringing his stick up, moving his hands to the end of the stick and swinging the stick at the opposing players head. I figure rest of the regular season and round 1 of the playoffs.

I'm sure Leaf fans won't really notice as he isn't the type of player who would probably even gets dressed during the playoffs, not when you have Domi and Tucker around.

To me it looked more like a deliberate attempt to appear that he was losing his balance while spinning around, etc. See that a lot from players who have just been checked, shoved, knocked off-stride...

At the end of the day the stick was in his hands and in control of it. He must answer for his actions. Off balance or not.

after watching it again and again. Vannannen had his stick between Belaks legs and trying to either hold him or twist him around. Fine. Belak got pissed and on losing his balance swung around pissed at the little man and whacked him good. Bad move Belak. He'll be gone for 2 at the most. Not anyworse than that weasle Havlat on Recchi slash to the face. Actually the weasles (Havalt) was worse wouldnt you say Pansey?

This is the best post yet - good point Mojo. If you're going to compare it to anything, then the Havlat incident is the best comparison. But since Belak is a goon and Havlat is something of a star, or at least a European (I LOVE DON!), then logic would dictate that Belak will get much more than just two games.
