Long thread, but I don' think that Radiohead "OK Computer" has been mentioned. Ambitious and musically dense, downright challenging in places (Paranoid Android) but also some of the best sweetest most accessible pop melodies I can name (e.g. No Surprises.) Worth a place here. Most rock critics place it way up there.
