Toronto Life is officially the magazine for douchebags, so I take anything in it with a cowlick-sized grain of salt.

And for what it's worth, I actually like Mount Dennis and think there's little to differentiate it from Mimico other than the lake.

I'm shopping for a townhome right now and one of the areas I have no idea of that has really good pricing is West Hill...How is this neighborhood?

Good, better, best
worse, more worse, worst.
Petzel, thank you again for correcting grammar (you're not anal but a scholar). When I didn't know better in my earlier years, I used to say 'worser', lol.

Mimico? WTF?
Are you WTFing my mention of Mimico, or the fact that it's the #9 best neighbourhood to live in Toronto according to Douchebag Life?

EDIT: I actually like Mimico, but I don't get ranking it so high and then ranking Mount Dennis (which is Mimico with less water and more forest) dead last.

That it's in the top ten. Like Blackrock13 said, I'd like to know the criteria.

(I like the way you refer to that mag as Douchebag lol).

'The “(mostly) scientific ranking”, published in the newest edition of Toronto Life and based on research from the University of Toronto’s Martin Prosperity Institute, considered 10 factors that contribute to the quality of a place, including the price and appreciation of housing, crime, transit, health and environment, entertainment, community engagement, diversity, schools and employment.

Researchers mined data from Statistics Canada, Toronto Police and the City of Toronto, among other sources. Toronto Life also polled its readers to find out what mattered most to them in order to assign a certain weight to each category.'

Looking at the neighbourhoods ranked, I can only imagine that there's an inverse relationship between diversity and ranking. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, if weight is determined in part by a poll of Douchebag Life's readership, but still.

Noth or south? North around morningside can be rough.

Have you looked further. East into west rouge. I believe its better there.

Mimico? WTF?
Its all the new condos going in there. Probably a bit of payback to the developers who spend advert dollars.

Don't get me wrong. The Lakeshore Corridor all the way to Brownsline is slowly gentrifying. Some good development with better density and walkability as a result. Very low crime too. But top 10. Not yet. Hopefully soon for my property values!

I moved to Old Cabbagetown in March, (Gerrard St. East/ Parliament St. area), and I love the neighbourhood. I'm five minutes walk from Yonge St., three minutes from two different Street Car lines, and about seven minutes from either the Dundas or College subway, or the Queen Street Car. I was formerly in Swansea, (The Queensway/ Windermere Avenue).

In that same seven minute radius, I've got four grocery stores, a Beer Store, and a Public Library. It used to be about 2½ miles round trip to the grocery store.

I love the architecture here - Cabbagetown has the largest number of Victorian era homes in North America, according to Wikipedia. The people in the neighbourhood are also very friendly. The only negative is that I can't let my cat out at night anymore. He's taken that surprisingly well.

Like James Kirk said, it is up and coming I suppose. When I think of Mimico, I conjure up The Blue Goose and the old days when a relative had a store on Lakeshore. I did visit a pretty nice Gilf SP in Mimico over a year ago.
