Being Friday during Lent and surfing TERB, I thought I would ask where the best fish and chip place would be in downtown Toronto.

Apologies if it has been asked recently (I saw the horrible fish and chip thread, but I am looking for good ones).

I haven't had lunch so time is of the essence.

Thanks

British Style across from the copshop on Dundas at Coxwell.
Better than Reliable, Olde York on Laird (though it's the nicst to sit in), and Duckworths, all of them good, but not as good as British Style. Only two tables though.

Thanks for the input.

I am going to go try British and try to avoid the Friday rush.

Used to be. New owners. Mediocre and they have let the place rundown a bit. I went in one day and all the tables had not been cleared.

Kingsway at Royal York is the best in the West End. There is a place on Lakeshore, just east of Islington on a side street that is not too bad. I have also been to a place in a small plaza at Rathburn and Renforth that is OK. However, the smell stays on you after you leave.

All of the above are good, but not great. I would like to try one of these east end joints to see if I can find something that comes close to great. Black Cat on Avenue Road was pretty good when I was last there 10 years ago. I don't know if it is still there.

Keep this thread going. I love fish and chips and am committed to finding the Holy Grail lined with newspaper.

P.S. I remember going to a place on Roncensvelles -excuse the spelling - called Vicky's. Again, it was just OK and a little dingy. They also sold Thai food that wasn't too bad.

In West End of Mississauga is Caz Fish & Chips, on the intersection of Erin Mills and Battleford Road, nice decent small fish n chips restaurant, and another one is on Queens St. near Streetville both are good selling fresh and crispy fried fish with good quality home made yukon gold potatoe fries, others are there also but not very reliable as far as their food goes.
There are some worse Fish n Chips Incs also over here in GTA, name few of them, so people are careful of not getting sick with their un-hygenic and bad fish dishes, which really causes lots of stomach problems if the fish served is not good, bad fish can be dangeorus to health in many ways.

DrRogers has left the Bld
Captain George's Fish and Chips on Big Bay Point Rd in Barrie and several other locations. All fresh cut and cooked. Very clean location and well priced.

There is a tiny little cinder block bunker (painted white) on the south side of Harbord near Brunswick. No room to eat inside but there are picnic tables outside. His fish is pretty good. I don't even know if it has a name posted.

The place is about the size of a small garage and may have been one at one time as it is at the entrance to an alley.

Chippy's on Queen West is also good. (Not a sit-down restaurant either.)

Agree, but it's a little expensive and the staff cop a really irritating Queen W attitude.

I'll second Duckworth's in the east end.
Just be sure to go the one on Kingston Rd. West of Midland.
It is located a couple of stores west of the Tim Hortons.
