best graphics program?

can anyone give me a recommendation on the best graphics program to purchase?

for PC

Corel Draw 12, close to $ 600 all in.

Paint Shop Pro 8, about $ 180 all in. Less features but gets the usual basic done.

Which to choose, depends on what you wanna do really ,and as always.

Best graphics program to do what? Adobe & Macromedia for example make great packages but they are serious overkill for most people.

Adobe products are generally what the pros use - Illustrator and PhotoShop - designed from the ground up for the industry

Download off Emule/Kazaa to test them out before you buy...

I think the biggest question is what are you goin g to use it for?
Corel may be your best bet and an older version can be picked up quite cheap at times.

It's not for everyone but you might want to try GIMP (http://www.gimp.org). Best of all, it's free.

I don't think there's anything out there better than Photoshop. The learning curve can be steep, but it's worth it.

Then again, depends on what she wants to do. If digital imaging/editing and manipulations are her thing ( rather than graphics per se ) , than Photoshop is the best you can get.

There is also a way cheaper entry level photoshop for novice:

image editing is one thing yes.....but I would also like to experiment in animation as I learn it....
