What is the best or at least the top two sperm banks and fertilization clinics in Toronto? Figured this is the most appropriate place to start this discussion.

I've always been uncertain about wanting to have kids...let me rephrase that, I'm pretty darn sure I don't want them. But life changes, I might meet a partner who I would want to make it work with. Who knows. Bottom line is I want full control of my reproductive rights and the way I have come to see it is the only way in this world for a man to truly have that control is to have a vasectomy. I've wanted one for the past ten years but was scared into not moving forward years ago by my Doctor who advised that the success rate of UNDOING a vasectomy is only 33% which is contrary to the commonly held views I've heard in the wild that would lead you to believe its 100% guaranteed. Suffice to say I wasn't ready to completely shut the door at that time.

Now I'm a bit older, more financially able lets say and more certain of my situation. I also have seen infertile couples have children through the miracle of modern medicine. I want to explore the possibility of freezing my sperm, storing it in a sperm bank and using in vitro fertilization with a partner if I ever want to have children. I know its expensive and not guaranteed but the way I look at it is it is FAR less expensive than making a mistake and having children with a woman you do not want to have them with (two problems wrapped in one!!). The reasons I want to do this are:

1) I want to fuck my committed girlfriends without using condoms.
2) I don't want to be trapped by any woman ever.
3) I don't want to have children. At least not until I am 10000% ready and I want to engineer a situation where I get the final and ultimate say regardless.
4) I certainly don't want to end up with multiple baby mamas

So I suppose this thread will likely go in two directions. Info on the clinics and things to consider that I've missed plus the usual criticism/support of my point of view. Let the games begin.

Couple years ago I did all of this for myself as a 40th birthday present. Spent about $2K on the sperm bank - enough to ensure lots of options/multiple children even - all based on my signature, not a drunken mistake.

Vasectomy was free and 3 months later confirmed shooting blanks.

Still use condoms with SPs of course but knowing if the condom ever fails/breaks there is no chance of a pregnancy is peace of mind.

And yes, when you have a SO who cannot take birth control (many reasons cause lots of ladies not able to) they love the fact you’re snipped.

Will look up the clinic I used when I get home tonight and add it to this thread.

Looking at these guys:

Depending on overall cost I might consider storage in two different banks just to be safe. Getting stoked about this.
That is who I used. $900 for initial setup and deposit. $300 and change for each additional. I did 4 deposits to ensure I had plenty stored away. 5 years included. Good for up to 12 years, can go as long as 25+. I figure at 52 if I haven’t used what I have stored I will donate to science and move on.

Bring your own porn on your phone. What they have in the rooms is 10-20 years old. Lol.

Cheers

Can’t I just bring my favourite MPA instead? :applause:

I actually had a companion I was telling about the process when I was going through it and she gave a devilish smile and asked could she come 'help'....well other than being eye candy and perhaps an extra hand, no sadly - had to be just semen in the cup, no contamination, lol...

...if they would even let her in the room with me for that matter.

Still, was a fun thought. Frankly I never even thought to ask....

I had the same thinking, and did the same thing.

Not really one for kids but just in case I came to have a life with a woman I wanted to create a life with I put some on ice at Repromed in Etobicoke. Didn't want any accidental children with someone I didn't make a well considered decision to have them with.

Most importantly, I had the "Gentle?NO scalpel Vasectomy procedure. Was easy, no pain, no complications. 15+ years ago.

DO NOT GO WITH ANY UROLOGIST WHO STILL CUTS YOUR BAG OPEN to snip the two little sperm ducts with the "traditional" vasectomy. It is a clear indication that he is stagnant in his professional develoipment that he has not taken the time to get trained on the minimally invasive technique.

It is settled science in the medical world that the minimally invasive No Scalpel Vasectomy is vastly superior in every aspect including less pain, risk of infection, swelling or other complications. In fact I just spoke with a friend last week who has to go in for surgery for the third time for some sort of vein collapse (?) that occurred as a result of incompetent "traditional" vasectomy.

Do not just accept your family Doctor's referral to the local urologist! Use google to find a very experienced NSV specialist. It will go so smooth and without complications.

Google NSV vs Traditional Vasectomy and decide for yourself

Funny, my doctor's comments on the subject were they both involve incision. But he didn't go into any details as to which method is preferred over the other.
I have a referral for a urologist that is still weeks out from catching up on booking their referrals!! Just gotta wait at this point.

Weeks put from catching up on bookings? Specialists who are that disorganized? Bad sign to me.

Don't be afraid to look for and choose your own urologist. One who specializes in the no scalpel vasectomy. Try one of these directly and they will fax your Dr's office for the referral.
