You look at him and he doesn't seem like the evil genius who launched Windows operating system onto the hapless world?

Seriously if i saw him on the street I'd be like "FIX WINDOWS ALREADY!"

I heard he married some supermodel trophy wife type and they have some save-the-world PR charity she takes care of to occupy her time in the 40,000 square foot house that cost 50 mil to build.

That picture of him splayed across that table was hilarious. Looks like he slept there. Mind you, he probably did at one time or another. What can you say, he's your typical geek who probably got pushed into lockers alot in High School who now has enough money to buy and sell most economies several times over. Someone was bound to do it.

By the way, not to start a flame war but if you hate Windows so bad, buy a Mac.

found this and I'm still laughing

Like everyone had said he is a nerdy but very smart business man. My company has been invited on a few occasions to see him a few times at his conferences in the U.S. He is a very open person but don't get him pissed off, then he is totally different person. I also have some investments in his products.

You would be suprised what his OS is used for. In most stuff we all use have some sort of Microsoft programming built in.

I stand corrected. Thanks

I guess that's one way to get a date.. Start a software company, get filthy rich, get your pick of the single chicks at the office..

Charmed life, I tell ya...

Well Gates was also born rich, and a lot of the family connections were a big part of his success. He was never the best or the brightest, but he certainly knew how to play the game.

He also had vision, a big key to his success.

Gates was at the right time at the right place.

Has anyone seen the movie "ICON", it is about the rise of Apple and its relationship with MS. The movie is supposed to be a fairly accurate portrail of what happened in reality. Apparently Bill kinda stole the Idea for windows from Steve Jobs, but that was only possible because of Steve Job's arrogance for thinking that MAC was better than sliced bread.

If Steve Jobs was more down to earth in his earlier years Bill might not have ever had the chance to steal the Windows concept and computing history might have been totally different.

IBM, Xerox's GUI, Jobs, Gates, go watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley"...
The GUI timeline http://accad.osu.edu/~waynec/history/lesson16b.html
You can thank Alan Kay for those lil icons on your desktop. ;)

GUI goes FURTHER back than that, but, Alan Kay did it on the PC.

Here's an interesting sound-bite from Jobs on Microsoft.

He's right though...

Gates basically had a deal with IBM, but IBM thought business machines only (hence "BM") in their name.
Gates envisioned PCs in homes, IBM thought DOS was going nowhere, so Gates took it and ran with it ---> MS-DOS.
Along with Xerox's GUI, tada.

"640 K ought to be enough for anybody."

Ya right Bill, we're doing Dual-Cores now baby...

Did anyone else get a strange PM from Kewlies, the original poster, about when you saw Gates and if there was a high stage and if there was security?

After the pie in the face incident in '98, I wonder how close anyone can get to Gates now.
Now that it's in black and white and you guys posted about his PMs, if anything happens to Bill here in Toronto.
Prime suspect #1 is right here in this thread...:p
