Incidentally, both oseltamivir and zanamivir have been shown to be effective treatments against the H5N1 virus. So as with any potential pandemic, the "scary" parts are:

1) Containment of outbreak
2) Timely treatment of those affected

I am wondering if they are talking about the Bird flu.In the last week ive heard alot about it and seems to be very deadly if it spreads.Dont want to alarm anyone but it seems very scary.
The Avian Flu is what they are blaming on the EU banning all feather and bird meat imports from Turkey right now...though, apparently, there isn't a single case of it in Turkey...

Is this the bird flu of which you speak? Or is it "bird" flu as in "bird" course or something?

Actually, as of 8 October 2005 the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in Ankara reported an outbreak of avian influenza in a farm in the western part of the country. The initial identification was influenza virus type A, subtype H5.

Key term is reported...there is no actual outbreak, apparently...or maybe I'm listening to too much late night radio ;)

not really related:

i once had 2 budgies as a kid. not knowing any better i fed them chicken everytime my parents cooked it, which was often. well, one bird died while i was in school one day and i came home to discover the other budgie gnawing on its passed on soulmate. did i turn the bird into a cannibal or is this normal?

o.k. this is probably my most idiotic post... but it's true. sorry if i offended anyone.
