Bit Torrent program error! Please help?

I've never had a problem downloading Bit Torrent on to my computer but since I've made some upgrades, I'm not able to install this and I keep getting this error message:

"Could not initialize the browser's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your browser's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use the browser session, you might see incorrect browser behaviour when accessing security features."

I know the disc is not full and I don't really want to mess with any settings unless I know for sure what they are.

Can anyone help me change the proper settings so I can download this program?

Thanks.

Try Newsgroups

Give Newsgroups a try, they are phenomenal and leave p2p and torrent sites in the dust.

Newsgroups are a little tricker to learn but the results are well worth it.
Used to use all the p2p sites since Napster when it was in its prime to Kazaa Lite K++, along with a few torrent sites right now.

Switching to Newsgroups was like switching from dial-up to broadband!

Here`s the thread with some Newsgroup info.

One other small problem I've encountered trying to delete bit torrent program (Add/Remove) and I get an error message that says,

NSIS ERROR - Error lauching installer! When all I want to do is remove this from add/remove programs!

You guys are the best, thanks! :)

Delete the cert8.db file in your profile folder and try again.
A dumb question; where is my profile located? It's probably right in front of my eyes but this has become frustrating to say the least. No matter what program I try to download I keep getting that original error now.

Man, and I thought I knew more than this about computers!

Which browser are you using? Are you using Firefox? Make sure you are using and Administrators account and not a Standard account.

Also, you can try finding the following folder:

On Windows XP/2000, the path is usually C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\, where xxxxxxxx is a random string of 8 characters.
On Vista the path is C:\users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\.

Note: Make sure hidden files are shown (Tools, Folder Options, View (Under Advanced Settings select Show hidden files and folders)).

After that right click on the folder and go to Properties, Security (Click on your computer profile and make sure the check marks are set to allow. Edit them if you need to).

If possible uninstall/install your browser again or try a different browser.

What upgrades did you make?

Well, I use IE in addition to Mozilla but it doesn’t matter because any program I try to download I keep getting a pop up stating : "Could not initialize the browser's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your browser's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use the browser session, you might see incorrect browser behavior when accessing security features."

Another problem I get that I also mentioned trying to delete bit torrent program (Add/Remove) and I get an error message that says,

NSIS ERROR - Error launching installer! When all I want to do is remove this from add/remove programs!

I went through my registry and deleted everything associated with bit torrent and still can’t delete bit torrent in add/remove programs without getting that error message.

I’m using the Admin account and you when you instructed “Note: Make sure hidden files are shown (Tools, Folder Options, View (Under Advanced Settings select Show hidden files and folders)).

After that right click on the folder and go to Properties, Security (Click on your computer profile and make sure the check marks are set to allow. Edit them if you need to).”

There was no folder option after tools!

As for upgrades? None made.

Thanks

Which operating system are you using? If you are using Vista or XP Pro you should see the Security tab in there. If you are using XP Home you can try the following in order to make the Security tab visible:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel
2. Double-click Folder Options
3. On the View tab, under Advanced settings, clear Use simple file sharing [Recommended].

If you want to uninstall a program you can try performing it in Safe Mode.

If that does not work try to manually remove BitTorrent by deleting the directory C:\Program Files\BitTorrent\ (substituting the actual location of your Program Files dir) and removing the following registry keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.torrent
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-bittorrent
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\bittorrent
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\BitTorrent

Note: Make a System Restore / Export the keys just in case.

I tried all that but still get the original error message and same old problem with add/remove programs with bit torrent.

And just to add, it doesn't matter what program I download keep getting the "Could not initialize the browser's security component. Talk about a nasty tech issue, I've never come across this before!
