Yes, I have some bitcoin.

I have mostly used it to play online poker for low stakes. I bought a small amount a long while back and it has gone up massively since then. I did not buy it as an investment (darn should have bought more!), who knows what the future might bring with regards to that? It if fairly volatile.

Why do you ask?

anyone using bitcoin yet
Also, you put this post in tech, which appeals to tech people, that being often between apple/android/mac/pc/ so on and so.

I suspect this post might get a tiny bit more interest in the gaming forum or investments.

Can't say this is surprising. As this "currency" gains in value, it becomes a bigger target for hacking.
I'm surprised that a hacker that has this level of sophistication to steal bicoins hasn't directed his efforts to some of the accounts of large banks and brokerage companies.

Maybe some day we will learn there was more than just ordinary hackers attacking the bitcoin.

there was some commotion indeed, but bitcoin is here to stay.

Mt. Gox was incompetent long before the attack and was weeded out.
Many lost money, that's bad.

There are strong traders out there.

That's because the premise of bitcoins is that it is anonymous and untraceable (hence it was used for alot of drug trade). So even if a hacker stole it, you couldn't prove it was yours as the premise was that they didn't want it traced to begin with (ironic isn't it?).

Not so when you wire money.

Saw on TV today that they found the (alleged) inventor of bitcoin but he denies it.

Bitcoin really isn't as anonymous and many think it is. Just do a quick Google search.

I read a story a few days ago about some Norwegian guy who bought $27 worth of Bitcoin while writing a research paper on cryptography and forgot about it. When Bitcoin was all over the news he remembered he had some and that investment had turned into over 800K.

I made a small return after buying some Bitcoin (under 5K) and still have a little. I cashed out 4K, spent 2K paying off credit cards, and used the other 2K on some other smaller cryptocurrencies. I don't expect much of a return, if any, but thought it'd be interesting to see what happens.
