I have read reviews on the Treo 700P and Motorola Q and it looks like in terms of fucntionality they recommend the 700P. Regarding the Motorola Q, apparently the design of the device is really good, the user interface which is a version of Windows really sucks and is not user friendly at all.

The Treo 700 which is not available in canada yet also comes in 700W for the window version and 700P, the newest Treo which comes with Palm OS. The recommendation is to go for the 700P above all the others.

Does anyone here use Blackberry without a BES on the back end? i.e. Any non-corporate Blackberry users? I'm just wondering how the email experience is without Blackberry Enterprise Server doing the work behind the scenes.

For the record, I've used Palm and Blackberry devices at work. I personally prefer Palm because it does much more via various third-party apps. But for business use (i.e. email) the Blackberry is far superior IMHO. I used a 7150 on Bell and am now using an 8700 on Rogers. The 8700, as others have noted, is an excellent unit.

I used to have a PDA phone, but now I'm back to the MotoSlvr. There is something intrinsically cool about a super thin phone. Before I had this thing at my ear that looked like big fly swatter. The problem I ran into was that spam was awful on my pop3 and I spent way too much money surfing and e-mailing. And they really ding you if you do it in the states.

So, unless it's critical that you send a lot of e-mails and surf the net I wouldn't bother.

I switched from a treo to a blackberry because I wanted Bluetooth, and at the time it wasn't available on the treo. I'm on my second blackberry- the first one started dialing numbers while in the holster! I've found the service better for the Palm products than Rogers' service. I guess nowadays Rogers probably screws up the serice on both the Blackberry and Treo. I'd go back to a Treo next time, or maybe the Ipaq. A friend of mine has an Ipaq and he loves it.

I got the BB 7290 because I mainly needed it for e mail (not browsing). It is by far the best phone I had. The reception is amazing, i actually find myself turning the volume down all the time. It is that clear. I wouldn't know about waiting one hour when turning it on, I've had it about 5 months and I have never turned it off :)

I have been an avid user of the Palm 600 for a couple of years, I had one blow up but was replaced for free, I like it! It has everything that I need, I don't need too much e-mail capacity, it does download e-mails, however I travel with a laptop and make periodic stops around the GTA at hotspots, when needed. I does have great third party additional tools that make it a very handy product.

I've tested both.
The Treo is more 'phone-centric' the BB more 'data-centric'.
If you need it for business email, make sure your email server supports either Treo or BB.
I think that this is the most important thing. If you want an "Email machine", that is also a phone and organizer, get a BB. If you want a phone/orgainizer combo that has the ability to check email, get a Treo.

I have had a 650 for several months now and I am pretty happy with it. My decision was partly based on the fact that I was already using a Palm so getting my data in was easy, and I got rid of one gizmo. The route from Palm to BB is only via Outlook, which I don't like.

However, with Bell anyway, BB has an "unlimited" data package, but the Treo doesn't. My first month I was way over. Bell retroactively upgraded my plan which saved $180 by spending $20, but you do need to watch downloading attachments etc.

Magazine

I got myself a magazine called "Cell Phone Handbook" at Chapters last week.
Go buy one or check it out!
Had some usefull info my opinion.
I was interested in Hp ipaq 6000 series/6325 or 6315 I believe, dont quote me on that, it was about 8 months ago I was interested. I like it because you can separate the qwerty keyboard. Attach/detach.
What I like to look for is phone/pda, with bluetooth, sim card, and especially built-in WiFi!!
Look for features when looking.
The magazine I've mention is U.S. I believe.
I was looking at the treo 650, treo 700 p/w, thats another OS, what do you prefer or its a matter of preference, a model 'Sprint PPC-6700' seen a few out there, Motorola Q, a model ' T-Mobile MDA', also considering the Blackberry 8700g but after reading reviews of the magazine its not for me.
The two models I've mention Sprint and T-Mobile it looks familar, which brand name or company suplies it?
Asus is another brand.
I seem to like the idea of sliding qwerty keyboard.
Oh by the way I wanted to know something about the Blackberry,
the old ones did you have to have a earpeice in order to talk someone only?
Anyways, just trying to help!
I know TigerDirect sells pda/phones.

Hey all

I've had the Treo 170, 250, 600 and 650 until last week then I picked-up a Blackerry Pearl and by far this is the best PDA I've owned. I get a new phone each year...if not two and this one is the best...the smallest and the most attractive.

How much of that are you really gonna use?
Sounds like you don't need a computer anymore.
