If you are using Windows I'm sure you're familiar with CCleaner.
Well Linux has something somewhat the same minus all bells and whistles.

Code:
sudo aptitude install bleachbit
It will clean out all the temp and junk that build up in the browsers as well as in other applications if you choose to.

BleachBit can also be found in Synaptic Package Manager and Ubuntu Software Center.

BleachBit works great. I ran it for the first time and was surprised at what it found that had built up in the last year running Ubuntu.

hiya WoodPeckr, cool I will check it out.

ultimately I want to boot Linux off a thumbdrive, have it create a RAM disk to store temp files...that way Firefox simply saves junk to RAM...and harddrives are exclusively for media files & my programming.

I know stuff like Puppy Linux, and Slax or Slitaz I think allow running exclusively via thumbdrive & RAM...maybe I will goof around with those, and rig it so it doesn't do a buncha writes to thumbdrive and wear it out...also remember reading that there is a filesystem which will not wear out thumbdrive as fast.

I put Ubuntu on a couple thrumbdrives. It runs off them very well. Kind of neat to be able to carry it in your pocket or key chain, then just plug it into any PC/laptop and run Linux off them. Did it a few times bit didn't end up using it as often as I thought I would.

pretty slick...yup, I've ran the Linux Mint 9 mini DVD via thumbdrive...but likewise thought screw it, why not install? runnin off thumbdrive not really practical since it will put a lot of wear & tear with too many write ops...and I like to keep Linux guts updated too.

still, really nice havin Linux sticks to boot Windows boxes :)
