To use or not to use.

Dr recently said I should be on them. I'm not terribly high but high enough.

What do you Boys think?

You may have to try one that works for you, but I've seen them be very effective for people.

All the meds have side effects-look the up. Mayo clinic website is good.
Change your eating habits, get some exercise, listen to your body.
The meds will adversely affect your organs in the long run.

Having said that, meds for the short term is good idea. For the long term, not so much of you can manage the weight, salt and exerccise.

How long have you been seeing this doctor? Did you discuss natural ways to keep it in control? If you feel you are being pushed into it, let them know.

You can ask the doctor how to change your lifestyle and get re-evaluated in a few months. Because once you are on them, chances are they won't take you off.

But also be honest about your health situation.

I started taking blood pressure meds about 6 months ago after years of trying to lower it through diet and exercise. He started me on a low dose (half a pill) monitored it for a bit and ramped it up. So now its a whole pill once a day. It's Norvasic, a calcium channel blocker. Don't feel any ill effects.

Changing life style, diet, exercise etc are relevant to controlling BP.
Unfortunately high or low BP is also hereditary.
Personally I know two friends who are thin as a broom handle yet have high BP.

Look into cardio exercises as well. They are proven to lower blood pressure. Cardio is ANY activity that keeps your heart rate at a certain range (i.e. 140 - 150 bpm for young people). My favourite form of cardio is 15 15-degree inclined treadmill walk (i can go up-to 3.2 miles an hour) - 30 minutes a day keeps all doctors away.

If your doctor asked you to be on BP pills, you should be on BP pills. Don't skip on that, as it silently causes damage to the kidneys and the heart.

Also exercise, reduce weight, avoid smoking and drinking, reduce sodium and caffeine and get a CPAP machine if you have sleep apnea.

Maybe not so fast on reducing the salt. Here's a 13 min video of why.

Let me ask you a question if I may.

Do you feel that they are any dietary or lifestyle choices that you can make that will help you make a difference?

If yes..Then now is a good time to implement them.

You could self monitor your progress to see the effect of your new strategy implementation.

If you are seeing no results then you know what you have to do.

Of course you keep your doctor looped in to what you are doing at all times.

I'm thinking, why you being a dick?

Most of the guys here figured that I was enquiring about their experiences. Don't know why you couldn't figure that out.
It sure sounded like you wanted advice. Should I use it or not. What do you guys think?

Follow your doctor's recommendation. Hi BP can and will affect your heart, kidneys, eyes and even how hard your dick gets. It's a matter of getting the right BP med(s) & dosage that works best for you. Yes, lifestyle changes will help but take the BP meds!

Thanks, I can definitely make some changes.

Cialis lowers BP a little bit. If it's only slightly elevated, consider talking to your doc about that.

Follow your doctor's advice but you should also do some preventive medicine yourself.

High bp and bad cholesterol also correlates with how much fried foods and processed sugar you eat. All that hill hiking on the McMichael Trail would not have helped me if I didn't learn how to roast a whole chicken.

Who wouldn't want to throw a salsice into Natasha.

Ahhhh, don't throw out the chicken livers.

Thinking with your small head on health will lead you straight to the cemetery. Do your life a favor, think with your big head and listen to your doctor. One of the best BP medications is Metoprolol
