And that is why throwing well is not an issue for a first baseman. It's a moot point.
Thames doesn't throw well either and he plays a scary left field, could we be seeing him on first, soon?

Lind did hit today. maybe the drop in the batting order helped or was it just his lucky day? Time will tell. I think he may be a better hitter when not in a the 3, 4 or 5 spot.
I don't think EE is a clean up hitter either, I don't believe he handles the pressure well. Nothing seems to bother Lawrie and JP seems to hit better with men on, I just don't know if they are experienced enough to get the job done.

I heard exactly zero people complain when they let him go.
Agreed, not a whimper from me either. However, I was surprised they didn't at least make him an offer.
Two years in a row AA has "revamped" the bullpen and it hasn't improved a lick.
Jansen did look good as the closer yesterday. How long has it been since a Blue Jay closer hasn't allowed a base runner?
! 2 3 was nice to watch.

Blue Jays: The team where closers come to die: Lopez, Batista(?), Ryan, Gregg, Rauch, Francisco, Cordero... Santos remains to be seen!

Is there a jinx? Something in the water? Or what?

I was thinking about the Blue Jays bullpen woes yesterday and my first thoughs of 'is AA right for this job, or was he ready for an MLB GM job ?' surfaced.
I am really beginning to wonder.

I'd say he's put together a very good but inexperienced team, which likely won't make the playoffs, but could be a superb team in a couple of years. They have some great prospects in the minors as well, so I think it's a bit too early to rush to judgement on AA. The two bright spots are starting pitching and defense. I think the hitting will slowly improve. Personally I find myself much more excited watching them this year than I have in a good long time.

Vlad Guerrero

Evidently Jays signed Vlad to a minor league contract (prorated $1.3M) and is in extended spring training. Maybe bench Lind, move Encarnacion to 1st and DH Vlad.

Encarnacion scares me when he fields. I'd take my chances with Vladie at 1st before I put Encarnacion there.

If I'm Lind I'm hearing footsteps with the Vlad signing.

Because you know EE isn't going anywhere soon.

Still would like to see what Cooper could do given 200 or so ab's.

Jays are 18-14 this year compared to 14-18 last year. At this rate they could win 91 games. Wild card?
before you can say playoffs they have to win some series against teams in their own division. Yankees coming up without their closer, Jays need to win that series bad!
Winning against the Royals and Twins is better than losing but it doesn't tell you how close you are to being for real!

I would rather see Cooper than Vlad. I wonder if the signing is an attempt to light a fire under Lind as I Vlad didn't have much left in the tank last year. He is a one dimensional player and a lot of that dimension is diminished. I would be surprised if we see him on the Jays other than maybe a September call up for a playoff run.

I remember we got "Big Hurt" Thomas one year after his best before date.

If I were the G.M. of the BJ's, right now I would be trying to pry Joe Mauer away from the Twins to play first base.

Right now he does not mean too much to the Twins because they are going nowhere and rebuilding.

I'd offer them Lind, either Snider or Thames and, if necessary, a pitcher with potential deep in the minors or cash.
