We miss going to jeff Healeys old club on Bathurst street on a Saturday afternoon for his free jazz from 4-7PM. It was the best deal going if you sipped your beer. Wonder what ever happened to his Jazz Wizards bandmates?

We have not found a replacement...any suggestions?

Esa Voz!!

Bebel is Joao Gilberto's daughter, who along with Jobim and Getz, gave birth to the Bossa Nova sound.

As cool as Bebel is, Astrud (Joao's wife and Bebel's Step-Mom) is the uncontested first lady of Bossa Nova.

That voice, oh that voice!!

One Gem:

AND...

For those who share my love of Asian Beauty and this genre of music, this is a MATCH made in Heaven:

Can't forget to include one of the undisputed Queens of Bossa Nova.
The late great Elis Regina, 'the little pepper'.

Só tinha de ser com você - Elis Regina

Elis Regina - Triste

Elis Regina - Madalena

Elis e Tom - Corcovado - 1974

Elis Regina - Wave

And last but not least the most popular bossa nova sing of all time,

Águas de Março - Tom Jobim e Elis Regina

If you like Nina you may like the latest CD,
Closer to You: The Pop Side by Cassandra Wilson.

Cassandra Wilson does some interesting arrangements of some old songs.

Here's some examples:

Cassandra Wilson - Wichita Lineman
This is drop D tuned. Very strange to listen to it in this key. Same tuning as this God Save The Queen believe it or not(ok when they were in tune lol). Kinda cool though (you didn't here that from me lol)

Thanks for this. I am a huge Nina Simone fan, and have been lukewarm on Cassandra Wilson (sometimes too mannered). I loved her cover of Red River Valley though.. and this seems like her in the same vein.

I've felt the same in general towards Cassandra Wilson but really like her latest CD.
She also does an interesting cover of the Neil Young song 'Harvest Moon' on it.
